My use is for web development, indie game development, and some mild games.

Software includes:

text editors for coding, Unity3d for game development, Blender for 3d, Autodesk 3d Studio Max for 3d, Autodesk Mudbox, Autodesk CAD (very limited workload)

For gaming it would mostly just be Diablo 3. Possibly some newer games if any strike my interest.

Here is what I have selected from Canada Computers. I plan to get a Samsung 4k 28" monitor as well. I do not mind if I don't game in 4k. The screen is more for work. Thank you.

NZXT H440 Mid Tower Chassis (White and black) (CA-H440W-W1) $119.99

ASUS H97-PLUS Socket 1150 Intel H97 Chipset $114.99
- Dual Channel DDR3 1600 MHz, 1x PCI-Express 3.0 x16
- GLAN, 6 x SATA 6.0Gb/s, 6x USB 3.0, 8x USB 2.0
- D-Sub/DVI/HDMI, ATX

Intel Core i5-4430 Quad-Core Processor $205.00
- Socket LGA1150, 3.0Ghz, 6MB L3 Cache, 22nm
- (Retail Boxed) Gen4 (BX80646I54430)

Corsair CS Modular CS750M 750Watt 80 PLUS Gold Certified Power Supply (CP-9020078-NA) $99.99

Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600MHz CL10 DIMMs (CMZ16GX3M2A1600C10) $186.99

Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Drive (MZ-7TE250BW) $159.99

Gigabyte Radeon R9 280X Rev 2.0 3GB GDDR5 (GV-R928XOC-3GD REV2.0) $329.99

Here are my opinions on this setup.
-If you are planning on using work applications like those, I would recommend an i7 over an i5. While it makes no difference in gaming, Hyperthreading increases the performance of Photoshop, for example, by 30%, so I recommend it for a work-orientated rig.
-Why are you planning on getting a 4k monitor? The only real point of 4k monitors today is either editing 4k video, or gaming in 4k, both require very high-end hardware. Not even 2 Titans in SLI can maintain Metro Last Light, for example, over 30FPS. You should stick with a 1440P monitor and save yourself $300 you can use to upgrade to an i7-4790K and maybe even your GPU if you feel like it.
-The GPU is fine for playing most games on 1080P, but definitely not 1440P. You should use the extra $200 from upgrading your CPU on a GTX 770 4GB (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=770&N=-1&isNodeId=1) which you can SLI if you feel like in the future. More video memory is CRUCIAL to using higher resolution monitors, as even a 1080P monitor can use over 3GB of VRAM sometimes.
-Also, as another thing for work rigs, you should get faster RAM. While it won't effect gaming, it will make your work applications just a bit faster, and would be a nice compliment to your SSD. I recommend this for a bit higher quality and matching your case, or this for a bit cheaper and just being black.

I want a 4k monitor for more screen real estate. Again, I don't play any shooters. Just Diablo 3. Do I really need a better gpu? I can understand what you said about the CPU, though.

he meant to say if you are looking for 4k gaming then even 2x770 would not be sufficient. Best Drop that monitor.

The thing about 4K monitors is that one, they usually cost around $600-800, and two, they require very-high end hardware to utilize efficiently, including a high amount of Video Memory (4GB+). You have to understand that 3840x2160 (4K) is 8294400 pixels, compared to 2073600 in a 1920x1080 monitor. However, 1440P monitors are much cheaper, around $400-500, and also come in 27", which is still pretty large. There are even a few 32", although they are just as expensive as 4k monitors. The 770 4GB should be plenty for most games on 1440P, and cost only around $50 more.

Okay thank you for the explanation. Would it be possible to play in windowed mode on a lower resolution? Or would that be too much for the computer to handle?

I am heading to the store shortly to go purchase everything, going to take a look at their monitors.

Yes, you could just decrease the resolution of the game, although on a screen that large it work look pixelated from the distance of a desk space (similar to how 720P looks bad on a 17" monitor, but not on an 8" monitor), but performance would increase to that of a monitor of whatever res you picked. So if you picked 1080P, the game would perform as if it was being ran on a native 1080P monitor. You could use windowed mode to decrease the size to reduce tearing and pixelation if need be though. But I still recommend a 1440P, wait till 4K becomes more common and cheap, and hardware becomes more capable of handling it.
