AMD 9370 a good buy at $199?

I'm thinking about building a new rig. I'd like to be able to create vm's, run Revit cad software and some gaming (Diablo & BF4). I'm on a tight budget, mainly because I can't justify building a new rig, unless I get the lowest prices. I'm wondering if the 9370 is a good deal at $199 for me. I can get 5% cash back to (Amazon) too. Thanks!

Solution
I'd like to say, 8GB memory may not be optimum for CAD build and VMs, you'll have to upgrade it, but that can be put aside for sometime.

For CPU, i5 aren't multi-threaded, they can sure manage VMs and CADs and stuff, but just won't beat the Xeon here. FX 8 is a good gaming choice on a budget, but as mentioned, if you can get Xeon/ i7, get it, AMD can't really beat them.

You obviously would need a GPU for gaming needs, but we have that sorted out later or will that be included too?

It' gets expensive when you buy a 9000 series CPU:

The boards are expensive , you need liquid cooling and a HUGE POWER SUPPLY , THE MONEY ADDS UP QUICKLY. :(

Your choices for the 9590:

ASRock 990FX Extreme9
Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z
Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0
Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 R4.0
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD7
MSI 990FXA-GD80V2

AMD.COM

Warning: This power draw of this CPU is almost twice that of the average CPU. Due to this, AMD recommends using at minimum a 1000W power supply. For cooling, AMD recommends using either either closed loop liquid cooling or full system liquid cooling.

Thanks. Why do you say the i5 over 8350? Even for running vm's? I've heard fx chips are good for multitasking?

Just as an example to my comment above. Don't need expensive motherboard or aftermarket cooling. Even if you wanted better than stock, a Coolermaster Hyper TX3 would be sufficient for the 1231v3.

Thanks, I figured he was joking about pentiums. Why do you pick an i5? I'm a slut for best deal, so I don't care if the cpu is Intel or AMD. My biggest questions is will I notice the performance difference on different cpu's? I like to have a few choices since you can find deals now and then on different cpu's.

Could I overclock it? Not a necessity, but just wondering about the option.

Thanks. Gaming's not my priority, I'm not concerned about getting 60 fbs. But I'd llike to be able to play Diablo and BF4. What do you think of the 8350?

Whats the performance difference between 8320 and 8350? I plan on getting a ssd also. What do you think about the difference between the zeon mentioned and the 8350/8320 for running vm's? Considering the cost difference of $80-$100. I'm a slut for speed, but I'm trying to find the sweet spot for speed/performance/cost.

as blackbird states be dang sure the board will handle the 220w blast heater amd chip cause if that ud3 board comes to you as anything but a rev 4 your done

buddies son got that chip on the asrock exe9 and last I heard it was still all good

if I were to spend on new today it would be a intel no point buying am3+ that's one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel and your buying the past today

Xeon cannot be overclocked, and doesn't need to be. A 1231v3 is superior to even an FX 9590. ;)

What do you use your machine for mostly? For me it will be vm's, cad software and gaming.

I was not seriously mentioning the Pentiums, it was sarcasm. Anyways, what's your total budget? It'll help in determining the best combo as per your needs which I think are these:
Gaming, VMs, OCing if required, best value/money.

Xeons are i7s w/o integrated graphics and OCability (compared to K ones). They're the best value/money and a good long time investment seeing that games are slowly moving towards multi core optmization, and in no way do Xeons have a weak single core performance, they can beat an OCed FX easily, besides being more energy efficient and durable (VERY STABLE as they're server class). If you can afford a Xeon, get it with a cheap H97 MoBo for upgradibility or H81/B85 if the budget gets tighter.

Thanks, good to know. Gaming is my low priority.

Admirable

Right now there is like a $40 bucks difference, is a great deal, i7 like performance for $50 bucks less, but i'd put those $40 on another gpu, i really dont need those extra threads, but that's me. What was the price at that time?

Dude, you were totally serious and now you loose your cpu badge. :)

I don't have a budget, I'm doing it in reverse. I researching what my price performance options are to upgrade to new system? I currently have a a10 6800k, 8 gb' ram and it's fine for running cad and some gaming. I run Revit for cad and its a ram whore and my mobo only has two slots (I have 2-4gb sticks now). One issue is I'd have to get two knew sticks of ram to upgrade my ram, which I have to run fast ram for the apu. Combined with I'm wanting to start getting into vm's. I really appreciate your advice!
