An Alcatel L3 switch we installed, serves a small group of B switches, each of which has 2-6 hosts attached to it. Until now each B switch had a static public address, and the L3 switch gave all hosts public addresses from a dhcp pool. This way I could ssh fom outside, to any switch no problem. Now, we are going to have routers replace L3 switches, and they will do NAT. My question is, how is ssh connectiving solved when switches take private addresses. I heard about port forwarding. Could this mean that each B switch needs a static private address, and then be given a permanent "network port", pre-configured in the router cnfig file? I know very little about this method, and is this the only way to get ssh to work? Thank you in advance for any comments. ;)
