PS3 or xbox 360

both have literally more games than you can possibly play -- both systems are almost a decade old now.

If you want a new console, why not the XBox One or PS4? Right now the XBox One has more games, but the PS4 has better hardware, and shoudl be catching up on games by this holiday season.

Pay the extra $ for a modern console. The games for the older systems are only going to become harder to find as time goes on. Also, as you see all of the pretty games coming out for the new systems, you will wish you had gotten one. Or you could spend the same amount you would on a xbox 1 and build yourself a budget pc that can play xbox360 gen games and xbox 1 gen games and have the best of both worlds...plus, games are cheaper here on the dark side.

The JXDs are retrogaming tablets. They come with a rooted android OS installation and are aimed to android gaming or retrogaming. They're off-topic here, for how good they may be...

As per the real thread, I'd say get the one whose games fit your tastes best. For example, at the time, the PS3 costed more than the 360 and had less games I liked, so I bought the latter, regretting the choice later on, as good JRPGs/RPGs (which I'm a big fan of) started getting out...
Eventually, I ended up with 3 RRoDs (PS3 had YLoDs, so I can't really complain) and a console that didn't fully satisfy me. Bought me a ps3 superslim a couple months ago and I'm getting the hell out of Tales of Xillia :p.

In any case, a new console would be a much better choice ATM, unless you have some very specific games you want to play that are available only on a particular console. PS4 is probably the best choice (slightly better hardware, good games coming out in the next months), and I also don't like how marketing went with the XBO, although it is a very viable choice too.
They started by enforcing DRM policies, kinect requirement (even if the game didn't use it) and by telling their console was a multimedia services platform rather than a home gaming console...they ended up with a completely opposite situation after noticing they would've got half the sales like that...

As others have said, get the PS4 or XB1 if you can afford it. If you need to go with the older generation, go with the PS3. There are better exclusives on the platform (better in terms of metacritic score), and there are more of them as well. (unless you're a diehard Halo fan...then you'll want the 360).

Note that I own both systems so my comments are based on experience with both of them and not fanboyism.
