ok im making this quick, im thinking of buying a "raspberry pi" to do my 24/7 torrent leeching/seeding. my question is i need linux distro is lightweight and also utorrent. most of my searches in google brought up other torrent application that i don't like or they son't support utorrent.

so basically:
1) which distro is best for what i'm gonna do (24/7 leeching/seeding) and of course browsing the net to DL. the ".torrent" file.
2) must support utorrent. i already setup the remote admin in my other devices so no suggestion of other apps.

thanks.

Lubuntu or xubutnu, 12.04 LTS or 13.10. utorrent does not have a 14.04 install package yet. I use the Ubuntu flavors has the community info base is the largest and most helpful.

Be carefull with blind advice for Lubuntu / Xubutnu and other distros - OP is talking about Raspberry PI, and not all of fancy distros are available / run good on RPi.

@Qazzi - your best start with RPi is here. Get 4gb microSD card, prepare it for RPi, and boot. Configure it for your likings, then go to Software Center, and download / install a Torrent client. You will want to have larger external USB disk / central server where to store the downloads. If you're askign for torrents, you are not gonna download 10mb clips ;)

1)suggest start with basic "Rasbian" (NOOBS) image for the RPi http://www.raspberrypi.org/help/noobs-setup/
2)utorrent is proprietary crap and does not support Linux on ARM devices like the RPi.
3)use transmission instead. Opensource, Lighter, more features than utorrent.

@Alabalcho i just wanna know which distro is lightwieght and support utorrent. but i will adhere to your advise. as for hardware the only thing missing is the "Raspberry pi" everything else is covered.

@skittle please read my posted quest 1 and 2. it clearly states. a distro that can run utorrent. as for transmission. read the 2nd question.

probably will try a couple of distro. but for now a friend suggested ARCH Linux.

Seconding all of the above. I have never used it but Raspbian is specfically designed for Pi and Transmission is a nice lightweight Linux torrent app.

If you really want it to look like XFCE/LXDE I believe you can install those packages within Raspbian.

uTorrent will NOT run on the raspberry pi. End of story. Sorry the developers do not support the ARM CPU architecture. Use transmission or any other open source torrent client. I don't see why you 'require' utorrent anyway it is not special in any way.

If you are new to Linux, ArchLinux will probably be frustratingly hard to get up and running. Its is meant for advanced users. It is also rolling release and may occasionally break so you must be prepared to fix things.

Rasbian is recommended because it is easy to install, stable, and just works.

Well then you are out of luck because you will not be able to use a RPi to run uTorrent. You will have to buy something that uses an x86 CPU instead. More $$$.

The Raspberry pi is a cool little piece of hardware, don't let one proprietary software not being available dissuade you from picking one up. Kind of silly IMO.

BTW very easy to set up "remote admin" for something like transmission. There are plenty of android apps, iphone apps, chrome extensions, firefox extensions. Transmission also supports watch folders and will download any .torrent you drop into these folders via SAMBA, FTP or whatever. Transmission also has nice remote web interface you can access from any browser, also has a cli interface you can access via SSH or Telnet.
