I have an Acer aspire 5253 and my wireless adapter is gone. My laptop does not have a switch to turn the wireless on or off, I usually have to press Fn + F3, but this is not working either.
When I go to device manager there is only the LAN adapter showing, no wireless adapter is found. I have tried reinstalling drivers, but none of them work; at the end of the installation a message saying there is not a wireless card installed is always popping up. I have tried resetting the internal wireless card, but this didn't work.
I thought about a virus blocking it somehow so I performed a deep cleaning hoping it would fix my problem, no luck.
I tried updating my bios as another option, but this didn't work either.
Then, finally gave up on wireless card, so I bought a USB adapter. It installed correctly and device manager displays is working correctly, but I get "no connections available"!!! There are plenty of connections available since I am able to connect with my phone and tablet.
I have tried reinstalling the software but this didn't help. (Belkin micro usb wireless adapter).

The only way I can connect to the internet is by using an Ethernet cable. I'm not sure what else am I missing. Any tip will be helpful.

Thanks!

Solution
Unplug router, wait 15 seconds, then plug it back in.
Wait until router has synced and showing ready to use (no lights flashing).

Now check "available networks" on your laptop to see if your router's SSID is listed.

You're laptop's built-in WiFi adapter has failed if it's not shown in Device Manager and there are no "unknown devices" listed in it.
As far as Windows is concerned, in effect it no longer exists.
