I have been reading through a lot of topics and I can't seem to find the answer I am looking for. At my work we have cable tv coaxial running to small digital boxes for each tv. We do not have wireless but are allowed to connect our laptops out in the front room where there is an ethernet connection so I am not trying to do a workaround of any sort. I was just wondering if there was an adapter to unplug the small cable box then connect to my laptop to receive the internet. I'm not caring about download speeds or having the tv on but just mess around on the laptop before going to bed instead of using my data minutes on my phone.

So they already have a cable modem that they use for the network. You are saying that I can connect another one to a cable coaxial that is used for a tv and run an internet line from that to my laptop? If so, is that something is going to show up on the network? If so, I will inform them what I will be doing so there is no question of whats going on.

Do some reading on "MoCA" technology, which is similar to Powerline/HomePlug, but over a house's coax instead of electrical cabling.
