I've built quite a few systems, never seen this before. My phenom x6 1090t is stuck on the heatsink. It's like it's fused on the copper. Tried gloss and it broke. Tried a hairdryer, no luck. Trickled alcohol on the side, nothing. I even banged it with a screwdriver and it didn't even move! Is this even possible? There doesn't seem to be any gap between the processor and the copper. Can't even fit a floss there.

Is there any hope?

You have used the Thermal Paste, right?
It imay be sticking cuz of that.
Return the CPU and heatsink back in the system and just play a game for like 10 mins to heat up the thermal compound.
Then turn of the PC,take out the CPU and heatsink and try to remove it.
If it doesn't work that way ,then I don't know. :p

Problem is that it's not on the m/b. And it can't get on the m/b as the heatsink is in the way of the lever for the cpu socket. If the lever is up, then the heatsink doesn't fit. And I don't think you can slot the cpu in with the lever down

Tried all sorts of strings but no luck. In the end I used a hairdryer for 10 minutes and a good bash worked. Obviously I might have damaged it, so need to test it.

Can I use the cpu and heatsink without the thermal paste for a few seconds, to see if it powers up to the bios screen?

Yes! Worked! Even had to force the cpu with the slightly bent pins in, but windows loaded no problem! Thank you all!

Now I need some thermal paste.

Arctic silver good?
