What ssd controller is best for nforce

Hi, I have tried to search but Google doesn't have a definite answer for me.

I am trying to upgrade my son's pc with an ssd and know, from experience, that his nforce chipset has issues with sandforce controlled drives (running at sata1 speeds). He was running a corsair force 3 on a pci-e controller card but that moved to another machine when the controller card started to fail.

I'm not worried about running in ide/raid mode if his bios doesn't support ahci.

I just want to know if I can buy an ssd that will work with his chipset without the need for an addin card and what controller to look for/avoid.

I have been reading the forum post and not found anything useful yet. It looks like I only have a few options.

1. Buy a non Sandforce ssd and hope it works.
And if it doesn't..
2. Find a non nvidia am2+ motherboard.
Or
3. Try another pci-e x1 (only slot available) controller card and hope it posts.

It would be helpful if someone knew for sure of an ssd that works without issue...

Upgrade your pc and you would find absolutely no difference with the SSDs these days. I have a sandforce based controller and my ssd has worked great for well over a year. im not complaining :D

I know, I haven't had any problems on any other system but then none of them were this old amd systems. A 2.3ghz quad is plenty for what he needs though, I guess we'll just have to put up with a slow mechanical hdd until he needs an upgrade.
