Hi everybody,

my problem: since this evening my computer stops booting up and the internal speaker gives 5 short beeps....
I've disconnected all my hdd's
disconnected all external connections
took at all internal pci cards
took out my cpu (AMD FX8350) and remounted it
took out my RAM, first 1 by 1, then both, then tried different slots ...
with no succes

that leaves only my mobo (AS rock 970 extreme 3 r2.0) that causes the failure, or maybe the FX8350 is dead ...?

How can i be sure what is causing the failure? (i don't have a spare mobo or am3+ processor to swap...)

thx!

From what I gather online this may be your CPU. Check your MOBO manual to be sure.

Beep codes vary depending on which BIOS your motherboard uses. If it is AMIBIOS (which your board uses), 5 short beeps indicates a CPU problem.

One caveat - I can't swear that the link below applies to your UEFI BIOS, even though it is AMI. but it is probably still accurate.

Burdenbound, you are brilliant!

apparently my gpu card died resulting in the 5 beeps ....
when i disconnected it ... off course i still got the 5 beeps ....
i just mounted my old graphics card .... and everything runs again like it should! (except games of course ;-)

thanks so much!!
