Crossfire a xfx 260x with a xfx 280x

I have not been able to find any info on if you can crossfire a 260x with 280x. So I bought a 260x about a year ago because that's all i could afford at the time. Now I'm upgrading my comp and was wondering if i could purchase a 280x and leave my 260x as a physics card? I know they run off the same Gpu which is the GCN core so I don't see why I couldn't but I would like to know before I go and buy another card. Thanks guys

No you can not do that. the 260x and the 280x are not compatible in a crossfire configuration. Also AMD cards do not support PhysX. That is an Nvidia only program just like mantel is AMD only at this point.

No, Crossfire is only possible with identical chip. So you can only crossfire a R7 260X with a R7 260X. But a R9 280X would be a much better performance boost than getting a second 260X.

Agreed, if I were you I'd just get a single 280x to replace your 260x.

There is one thing the graphs posted leave out though, the AMD 200 series is also able to crossfire with the 7000 series GPU's. This is possible because they are the same "Chips" just rebadged as the 200 series. The formula still applies though, you need the same chip in order to crossfire though. Example the R9 280x can crossfire with the HD 7970.
