As title says, currently looking for a new monitor to replace my ancient LG thing.
Currently using 1920x1080 @60hz monitor.
For gaming (like BF4) which do you think I would get the most benefit from;
28" 4k monitor that runs at 60hz, with which I could currently reach about 60fps average with in BF4.
Or.
24" 1080 monitor that runs at 144hz, with which I could reach 130fps average in BF4.
Simply put, should I get the monitor that upgrades the refresh rate to 144hz, or the monitor that upgrades the resolution (even at 2k the 28" monitor has more definition than my current). I play a lot more than just BF4, but BF4 is the one I want to be able to continue playing at Ultra (except maybe some AA at 4k since it doesn't seem necessary).
EDIT: both monitors in question are G-sync monitors btw, I would probably go for a 144hz 1440p monitor if such existed with G-sync but one doesn't afaik.

Well honestly I don't know. The 60fps average I would seemingly get with BF4 sounds playable to me, but people say 144hz feels a lot smoother if you can reach that sort of FPS, if 60 is good enough then what's the point of 120+.
So what would be better, a more sluggish 4k game, or a smoother, less defined game. That's my question.

2560x1440 144 Hz g-sync 1ms monitor.

This will give you room for the higher frame rates - a compromise between 1080p and 4k, and G-sync will make the experience even more smooth.

If i had money to blow, I would get this monitor considering I already had the GPU requirements.

That isn't 1440p though, it's 1080p.
And my budget was >£500 preferably.
There are only 4 G-Sync monitors I know of atm
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/productlist.php?groupid=1...
Thus my predicament.
Of the 4 I don't want the ROG monitor and I don't want a 27" 1080p panel.
That leaves the 144hz 1080p panel, smoother but not more defined.
Or the 60hz 4k panel, much more definition but possibly at the limit of decent fps (though will run 2560x1440 for non 4k/upscaling games just fine).

My point is I don't know what I want. The smoothness of 144hz or the definition of 4k, cos I can't have both. They both have pros and cons. But for gaming, one is surely better.
I guess if I really needed I could add a 3rd 780ti...

You are willing to buy a 3rd gtx 780 Ti + a monitor but not get the asus rog swift for ~£100 over your budget?? You sir are confusing... and I wouldn't get a 3rd gpu, most games see very little to no performance gain from it.

Get the Acer monitor http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO... You can play at 144hz using G-Sync and you can either play at 4K or 2K. you can try 4K and if you dont like the FPs you get, switch back to 2K and play it at 144Hz on G-Sync. win win situation.

The 3rd 780ti was a stupid thought, didn't really think it through.

It only has a 60hz displayport. Am I missing something?

I think I'll probably go for the 4k monitor. If it is sucky I'll just sell it and buy something else... If BF4 ultra is supposed to average 60fps I dunno how low it will drop to so I'd have to see for myself.
Hopefully they release a 144hz, 1440p monitor that's like 24"-26" and isn't a TN panel, although that thing will probably get pretty expensive.
