Ok I have a Dell Inspiron 570 which I would like to upgrade the power supply, gpu and cpu for a game I'm interested in that uses alot of resourses, but having issues finding out what this mobo can carry. If it helps , the game is ARMA 3
System profile is

Dell Inc. Inspiron 570 00
2.90 gigahertz AMD Athlon II X2 245
500.00 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity
Slot 'DIMM0' has 2048 MB
Board: Dell Inc. 04GJJT
ATI Radeon HD 4200

Now what i want to do is, install a Quad core cpu, preferably an intel, since the game seems to prefer intell cpu. I'm still browsing for a good gpu at the moment, it depends what cpu I end up with or on what I can do with this mobo. Oh yes I already got a 650 watt power supply and plan to install more RAM

Any info anybody can share on the limits of this mobo would be much appreciated....

the above link has all of the info and a great writeup. if you follow it you should be able to get a Phenom II x4 965 BE and pair that up with a gtx760 or r9 280 as your upper limit

a new power supply and you will be gaming.

the price may be prohibitive as compared to just building a new rig you will have to price things out and the article i linked has good links for finding prices

Thank you for that link, it helps alot. kind of wanted to go a little farther on the cpu because Arma 3 is very resource hungry, especially on the cpu, but this is what i got to work with lol

arma is a tough game for any rig but that 965 be overclocked should let you play at some real nice settings and should extend your rig for another year at least

you may want to go used for the GPU also. a 7950 or 660 would work. the only manufacturer that I know honors used warranty is MSI. I have bought used and they will honor the warranty according to the serial number on the back. the MSI website tells you what to look for so you can check when the warranty ends

Or how about this cpu I found a little better priced?

AMD Athlon II X4 760K 3.8 GHz Quad-Core

That's what I'm digging into. I'm hoping that since the Venom 2 quad is compatible, the Athlon will be too. I already asked on that post from the link you posted on the dell forums, but at $90 compared too $190 I can't just overlook lol

the problem you run into is that your chipset does support that CPU but unless the dell bios is ready to handle it then you cannot use it.

Thanks for the replies you all, but I decided that I might as well start building from scratch.

asus is my favorite motherboard. now for cpu you should look into an i5, and a k edition if you want to overclock. the asus board should have some auto-overclocking software on it that works really well.

then just get a good power supply xfx and seasonic are the go to and then some evga are really good. here are some links to good reviewers, if they like it then buy it.

http://www.jonnyguru.com/

lastly spend all you can on that GPU, toms hardware does a good article on what the best GPU is at every price point everymonth I would check that and personally i think that AMD is the value leader right now eventho I like nvidia better (I run AMD).

Already got a refurbished 650 watt power supply from dell. I'll probably end up getting another one, simply because it only cost $16 lol and usually you get what you payed for lol. I,m still poking at cpu and gpu that will pair nicely. Kinda looking at a Intel Core i5-2500K 3.3 GHz Quad-Core. After I get a cpu, I'll see what gpu pairs best with it

keep me posted. i am usually on here at least once a day just to check posts and such

Intel Core i5-4690K

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

this the correct CPU, the 2500k is an lga 1155 chipset and will not work with your motherboard

with the Intel Core i5-4670K you can buy any graphics card you want. I run 2x 7950's (exact same as r9 280) and my cpu is that i5 2500k

this is the cheapest i5 you can get

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

not sure if you are in the states or not but the price difference is $55 and they are the same chip but the core clock goes from 3.0 not overclockable to 4.2 with overclock (pretty much a guarantee you can get this overclock or a little better)

with overclocking you will have to spend another $25-35 for a CPU cooler.

above is my rec. it the one i use and i overclock to 4.8 core clock

I noticed that one and still pondering on it. i think I kinda need as much overclocking i can get for the game that started the idea for this rebuild, ARMA3, which is VERY cpu hungry, especially on multiplayer.. Hmmm decisions decisions??
