i have an fx-8320 currently running stock@3.5ghz on a msi 970a-G46 mobo. And I know, that mobo isn't recommended for that cpu, but three months later and not a single issue. i wanted to ask you more experienced peoples out there if it would be safe for me to bump the cpu to 4.0ghz and what difference that would make. also, im running a evo212 with A LOT of airflow. (2x200mm fans, 4x120mm, and 1x180mm) in a thermaltake Chaser Series Chaser MK-I (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...)

I wouldn't have any issue cranking up the speed of the CPU on that board. It appears to only have a 4+1 phase power, but it has heat sinks on the VRMs. And an 8 pin CPU power connector. I've got a Phenom II X4 965BE at 4.0GHz on an MSI board that isn't even that good.

Yea not sure how that motherboard will take overclocking but as clutchc said it does have some good cooling for the phase power which is good.

I have the Gigabyte 990FX-UD3 with a FX-8320 at 4.4Ghz - 20x Multiplier, 220mhz buss, 1.4v cpu, Ram is running at 2400mhz and some change. I have a Corsair H100i Cooling it. 55-57 C is as hot as it gets with Prime95 after a few hours.

But going to 4GHz shouldn't be an issue. the turbo boost is 3.7 so bumping it up to 4 should be ok. Just keep in mind you may not be able to turn of the turbo core on that motherboard which will throttle your CPU
