I have a P6-2033w that i want to upgrade the PSU of, HP support actually told me that a internal power supply can NOT be upgraded etc LOL. anyway it has a 300watt in it right now... I'm wanting to upgrade possibly to the Corsair CMPSU 400CX.

The Power supply in it right now is the lite on ps-5301 o8ha

I'm doing the upgrade to upgrade my Graphics card from the gt230 to the gt640.

like they said, there is no way you can put your intended PSU in your case. If you were dead set on doing this, you would have to literally leave the PSU outside of the case and thread the wires in, which is definitely not ideal.

I am not understanding what you are saying. What the lady at HP support said was that there is no such thing as being able to change out a internal power supply. I however do know internal power supplies can be changed out. I never told the lady which kind of power supply upgrade etc. I just need to upgrade my power supply to 400watts that will run the gt640. I should also add that the HP tech support lady tried to tell me a gt210 graphics card can not be changed out either..when clearly it can lol

Consair tech support told me they can be changed out and upgraded..and told me the cmpsu 400cx seems like it would be upgradeable with the p6-2033w but said he can not give recommendations because he said consair does not use HP for testing...he then directed me to ask on a forum to see what answers i get back.

Consair cmpsu 400cx is ::Standard ATX PS/2 size: 5.9"(W) x 3.4"(H) X 5.5"(L); 150mm(W) x 86mm(H) x 140mm(L)::

PS-5301-08HA is ::Width: 5.75"; Height: 3.25"; Depth: 6.0"::

I just called Lite on tech support..and they told me they have ZERO support help with ANY of their power supplies..only optical drives.

After talking to best buy's support they told me the startech's power supplies might be a good one to look at, they typed my computer into their computer and said the startech psu's looked like a good match. I found the ATX2PW450PRO for 19.50 still in box with original wrapping and 30 day warrenty. I talked to startech's tech support and they said with my computer model and the asus gt 640 the ATX2PW450PRO should work fine. I looked at the specs of the ATX2PW450PRO and it seems to me to be a good psu....it still has not arrived but i'll reply back with how it works. here is the specs on the ATX2PW450PRO model.

1 - ATX 12V P4 Power (4 pin; v 2.x) Male

1 - ATX Split Power (20+4 pin; v 2.x) Male

The ATX2PW450PRO worked perfect inside the HP P6-2033w. Was the exact size etc as the factory power supply. There is a little "bump" on the back side of the Power supply that is part of the computer case itself that has to be pressed down slightly to get the old power supply out though. The "asus" gt640 3gd3/dp (yes it is a 3) D4C0YZ045647 graphics card still will not work though..so I'm guessing that was made specifically for the asus computer it came out of, this graphics card comes out of the Asus CM6730-US010S computer and will not work in the HP P6-2033w. Only thing I noticed with this new power supply compared to the factory one is the factory one has utter silence when on...this new one is just slightly louder...not too bad though. Total cost up the upgrade from 300watt to 450watt was just 19.49.

Found one slight issue...the ATX2PW450PRO has added cables which takes up more room...my guess is this causes more heat inside computer on the graphics card. I noticed with GTA 4 it plays 1 minute 15 seconds and then hits heavy lag. Test on cpu temp showed cpu fine..test on gpu temp showed when it hits lag it is touching 100c. I cleaned graphics card fan really really good and left case door off...temp stayed at 83-85c after 10 minutes of heavy game play....no lag. I used GPU temp program to test GPU temp/heat. I also decided to use Nvidea inspector program and set the frame rate limiter to 40 frames per second (just to be on safe side). The frame rate limiter did not help the lag...but still I added that. The P6-2033w comes with the Saphire GT230 graphics card (or my factory bought one did). Other than this...power supply working perfect...computer running fine.

Yeah...I'm kinda thinking the Thermal paste was going bad or something.....going to add some tuniq TX-4 to it later. I'm really not personally noticing any heat difference inside the case..so I'm thinking it is possible the thermal compound on the Graphics card needing replaced which I have not done and been using the card for almost 3 years now lol. I was switching the graphics cards out back and forth a few times trying to get the gt640 to work...could of weakened the thermal paste on the gt230 somewhere in that process. The power supply itself seems to be working like a charm though...after leaving the power supply running for a few hours it is running as quiet as the factory power supply.

After adding new thermal compound "Artic Silver 5 high density" from radio shack for 12 bucks...the GPU is not going over 54c during GTA 4. So it just needed new thermal compound...Power supply after 24 hrs is running completely silent and perfect.

Update, I replaced the GT 230 gpu with the EVGA GTX 650...got it for 50 bucks...works perfect..GTA 4 on all top settings and driving around at top speed for about 5 minutes the gpu temp does not go over 56c degres. No issue from the 450watt power supply..it is running silent. The evga gtx 650 is MUCH shorter than the factory gt 230...so much more room inside now...it has added air supply holes so inside gets much more air flow. I also had a issue with the on board audio...was giving me a red x saying no audio plugged in or found (even did this with headphones)...I tried all repairs for this and nothing worked so had to been the on board audio going out itself....bought a creative sound blaster x-fi 5.1 "USB" card for 45 bucks..and that fixed that issue like a charm. I did have to spend like 5 bucks for a mini hdmi to regular hdmi adapter for the graphics card to plug into my 40inch hd tv though. I'm running batman arkham asylum right now and it is playing flawless...zero lag....after 2 hrs of gameplay the gpu temp still not going over 56c (averages 48-52c)....if I leave case door off the gpu temp is not going over 48c.

Benchmarks: Batman Arkham city with the benchmark option stated average frames per second to be 44...min 19 frames per second and max to be 60 frames per second.

Resident evil 5, on Variable bench mark option... 94.4 average frames per second.
Area 1 145.5 Area 2 79.7 area 3 85.6 area 4 83.8

Grand theft auto 4 (everything set to highest settings):
Average frames per second 29.78
CPU usage 97%
System memory 63%
Video memory 58%

With everything cut in half and all medium. 34.95 fps, 99% cpu, system 64%, Video 54%

I have just bought an asus Geforce GTX 750 Ti, for an upgrade for this computer,....It is NOT compatible.

Is there a step lower graphics card that WILL work in this PC? How has your gtx650 working out?
