I have an Asus X550LA with 4GB of built in ram, a dual-core i-5 with hyper-threading and an Intel HD 4400 graphics card. My problem is this, I got a free corsair vengeance 8GB DIMM 204-pin memory card and installed it in my laptop. It supposedly supports up to 12GB ram, but is not detecting the new memory so I can't use it. I am running a 64-bit vesion of windows. Please Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

May not be compatible, did you check the compatibility list?

From what I can find it is. My only problem is I am getting conflicting messages on what the maximum ram is, either 8 or 12. If it is 8, is there a way to disable the built in and use the memory in the expansion slot?

Generally no, laptops pretty much have a locked BIOS that doesn't allow you to do much

So if my system is not recognizing it, what is the problem and is there a way to fix it?

Might check and see if you have latest BIOS...otherwise it may be a bad stick or simply not compatible, as mentioned with a laptop not much of anything you can do like with a desktop where you can adjust voltages, timings etc

Also, as I said before, it says it is compatible, it just isn't booting. P.S. They both are 1600ghz.
