So I have a LaCie 2Big 4gig Thunderbolt 7200 for mac. It always worked perfectly. Long story short it was put away (perfectly dry and protected in the original box) for the last 8 months. I take it out of storage and now the damn thing won't even turn on. There is power in the cord (the green light is on) but the big blue power light up front will not turn on. Is there a reset button I'm unaware of? Did my costly drive already poop out?

If it has power but won't turn on it could be a number of things, but it's a short list. Do you hear any kind of activity from the drive when you turn it on? What about the cooling fans? You could try to remove the drive from the box and hook it directly to a PC with a SATA cable or a HDD adaptor. The drives in the 2Big slide out on trays. If the drive powers on, then you can trace it to the enclosure itself. It could be that the power supply brick has gone bad and is providing enough voltage to light the light, but not power the enclosure accessories. A power on light doesn't mean it's not getting power per se. If you don't hear the fans power up then you can probably bet it's something with the power supply or some internal component. You could try hooking it to another power supply if you have one. I am not aware of any hardware reset. That's all I can think of. Storing electronics can cause issues, but it's pretty rare. Even though it's dry, moisture can still get in, that's why new electronics sometimes ship with desiccant packs to strip any moisture in the event they get stored for long periods. Other than that, I am out of suggestions. I've owned a LaCie before and it was terrible. The drive would randomly disconnect itself from the PC and corrupt files, and died after only 2 years. I swapped the drive into another enclosure and it works fine now.

I've had similar issues with LaCie, drive works for a year, then dies. It was a model that had two drives in a proprietary RAID0 controller, and the controller burned out. Nothing I did with the internal disks would re-establish the RAID array, even though both disks were fine.
