Hello Guys,
I'm having trouble choosing between these two cards :
Saphire Tri-X http://www.amazon.com/Sapphire-Version-PCI-Express-Graphics-11227-00-40G/dp/B00HJOXUKC/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1410404914&sr=8-3&keywords=r9+290
Gigabyte Windforce http://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-GDDR5-4GB-2xDVI-Graphics-GV-R929OC-4GD/dp/B00HS84DFU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1410405120&sr=8-1&keywords=r9+290

In a review I watched on youtube the windforce went to 84 degrees at 70% fanspeed and the tri-x went to 79 degrees at 47% fan speed.
Right now the cards have around a $60 difference. I was wondering if the better cooling of the tri-x along with its apparently better over-clock ablility was worth the price.

I don't really care about how noisy it is but I don't really know much about how hot it gets. Is there any advantage to keeping your gpu cooler? Considering that the R290 is rated to run at 95 degrees.

Solution
I'd wait till the 980 drops in what is expected to be about 9 days .... prices will tumble a day oir 2 before it happens .... if it happens :)

The Gigabyte cards are typically among the loudest but also very highly clocked.

fan noise on the Sapphire is perty high at 37 dbA ... that's getting close to twice as loud as say a MSI 780 Ti

The Sapphire got a 9.0 rating in that review, the MSI got a 9.3 but it was even louder at 41 dbA. The MSI hit 129.8 fps in BF3 / Sapphire hit 125.6

Solution
There's now a cheap way to do custom cooling .... start out with a H220-X ($140) from Swiftech and then open the loop to add more blocks. Tho at $440 for the 290, why not go for the faster and waaaaay cooler Asus 780 Poseidon

$440 Asus Poseidon w/ water block

$140 Swiftech H220-X

Say $35 for hoses and fittings and you have a complete water cooled system .... I'd wanna add a 2nd rad ($75) tho....

$690 for card and water cooling sounds good to me.....i spent .... well ya don't wanna kno :p)

what case yu have ?
