PSU for rig upgrade?

Here are my specs:

MSI 970A-G43 Mobo
AMD FX 6300 @ 3.76
32 GB Corsair Vengeance RAM
EVGA GeForce GTX 660 Superclocked
1.5 TB Western Digital HDD
4x 120mm fans
Coolermaster EVO 212 Cpu Cooler
EVGA 600 B
Coolermaster HAF XB EVO Case

So I'm getting the following parts but i'm starting to think that maybe my PSU won't be able to handle all of this.

120 GB Kingston SSDNow v300
AMD FX 8350 Black Edition
Corsair H50 Quiet Edition Water Cooler
another GTX 660 (for SLI)

So after seeing what I have, do you think that I'm going to need a bigger juice box for all this juice?? Or just a better one? Or am I good?

More about : psu rig upgrade

Also should I get the H50? or will my 212 EVO keep it cool enough to OC?

The psu is good enough for the system, and as for the cooler, you should be able to get 4.4ghz or so on the cpu on the hyper 212 evo. If I were you, I would get the extra 50$ from the h50 and put it for a better gpu.

Just noticed you mentioned sli.

The EVGA 750b2 should be very good for your system, and will power it all.

As for the CPU cooler you can still oc on the hyper 212 evo, but I would purchase the h50 anyways just for the extra cooling.

that has 20A on the 12v, is that going to be enough? I read on another thread that I should have 24A (literally just read it)

You are probably looking at the 750b1(comes up when you open the link) Be sure to click the EVGA 750b2, this link should show it properly, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KFAFRW6/ref=pd_lpo_...
Sorry for the confusion, this unit has 62 amps on the 12v rail.

On the tier list the 750b2 model is placed as Tier 2a which is great quality.

Upon further inspection, are you going to be upgrading your motherboard? The motherboard you currently run doesn't support nVidia sli.
It's also pretty poor for Crossfire as well as it would run at 16x and 4x.

Oh man I didn't even think about that. Any ideas on which I should get?

What's the max you could spend on the board? I'll post some motherboards, that will support it.

I could do another $120 but then no second GTX 660. I guess I can get the board first and a couple months get either a better gpu or another 660 as planned

A fantastic 990fx board - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
Asrock 970 EXTREME4 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

These are really the cheapest it gets for sli on the AM3+ socket, the 990fx board would be superior to the EXTREME4, if you can fork the extra $$ for it.

The 990fx would run at x16 and x16 for sli
the 970 would run at 8x and 8x for sli

You could drop the h50 and keep your 212 evo, it would be sufficient. You could always drop the ssd and purchase that later and it would cost less to purchase later rather than finding a gtx 660 which in a few months you may not be able to find.

That gets around 100$ or so, and just save a bit longer for the 990fx at that point. Then you could have the nice gaming power and pick up an ssd in a month or two.

Another option you may consider is to hold off on the 8 core cpu for now then wait down the road and pick up the new 8370 or the energy saving FX cpu's coming out. That is what I would do personally. You can get everything and the new mobo and then pick up the fx 8370e or 8370! :)

Ok I'm going to get the 990fx, and just wait on the GPU. Although it seems kinda silly to buy a new mobo for sli when i don't have a second card haha

I was told that my fx 6300 would bottleneck two 660's in SLI

Gotta do what you gotta do! I hope everything goes smoothly in your upgrades. I hate to be the bearer of bad news on your old motherboard, but better you know vs. buying a new card and have it not work. :D

Glad I could help, if you need anything more you can always post back on this thread or create a new thread and somebody or myself will be glad to help you!

There should be no bottleneck on the cards. The fx6300 is rather powerful even when you OC the little guy.

If there ever is a bottleneck it should be rather small and you will still get rocking performance compared to the single gtx 660. To help if there ever is a bottleneck you could oc the cpu to 4ghz easily, more than likely on the stock voltage, there are many many oc videos on the web on how to do that.

So with everything that we've discussed (not getting the 8350 or H50) and getting the mobo and the second 660 am I going to see noticable gains or is this all just and exercise in futility haha?

So after all of the items are purchased your rig should be a
FX-6300
GTX 660 SLI
EVGA 750b2
Gigabyte 990fx-ud3
120gb ssd
32gb of ram

Not bad :)  Enjoy.
