Hey guys, a little baffled by an issue here:

I'm on an HP 625 notebook, with 32-bit Windows 7 Home Premium, which came to me with 3GB of RAM (only 2.75GB usable). Looking to upgrade my memory, I purchased a 4GB Crucial stick using the compatibility program on their website. I installed it tonight, subsequently removing a 1GB stick to open up a slot.
After rebooting, my system info screen shows correctly that I have 6GB now......but still says only 2.75GB usable.

I made sure maximum memory was UNchecked, and I entered the BIOS in an attempt to enable memory remapping. But in the HP BIOS, no such option exists.

Does anyone have any tips for solving this?
Thank you!

32bit OS's have a 4GB memory limit. Now that limit is reduced by certain things including your GPU's memory. As that 4GB is Total addressable memory. In order for you to get access to the full 6GB you have you will need to upgrade to a 64bit version of Windows 7.

That is a 64bit processor there hasn't been a 32bit processor sold for some time. The OS (software) is 32bit. You need to install Win7 64bit to get access to the extra memory. When Win7 32bit runs it requests the processor to run in 32bit mode. Hence it can request your maximum memory amount (6GB) but it can't use it.

NOTE: 64bit processors have 2 modes

64bit Long mode (can run in either 64bit or 32bit Compatibility mode) 256TB Maximum memory yes TB aka around 256,000GB.
32bit Legacy mode (can run in either 32bit or 16bit) 4GB maximum memory
