HOT 4790K with hyper 212 EVO?

I have a 4790k that is getting to 70C with just normal BF4 gaming, and got to 46C while using handbrake to render a video. Prime 95 took it to 81C after 5 minutes...
Here's my fan configuration:

Why is this so hot? I have plenty of fans and I though my Hyper 212 was better? I am using MX-2 thermal paste which is recorded to beat Arctic Silver 5...

CPU is at 4.4ghz with 1.216v. Idles at a normal 35C or so when just browsing the internet, yet the temperatures just never stop climbing...

What should I do? I just want to keep it under 70C while keeping it at 4.4ghz, and many claim this Heatsink should be working wonders...

Ya it sounds like you did it alright. You just have a chip that runs hot while oc. H80 with noctuas rock.
Dude liquid is nothing to be scared of now. You dont have to run tubing unless your running a special case setup.
Go with the d-14 that thing is a beast and their fans are great for airflow.
I gather the 70C is from bios or your mobo uefi. If not, post temps from there.

The cooler really isn't up to the task especially if you've overclocked the cpu.

The CPU should be new so I gather the cooler is too and is clean. Get rid of any CPU overclock and bump up the cooler fan speed to 1500 rpm.

If that doesn't get cpu temps down to 35C max idle and 55C max gaming, then re-seat the cooler (Google it).

If still not OK, look at getting a better cooler eg Noctua or a H80.

egh... the 290 cost more than my cpu and mobo combined mate... $525 on release thanks to the inflation...

And yes I'd like it under 70C to protect the life of the CPU. I'm not into water cooling very much, maybe an AIO cooler, but not tubing. Would the Noctua D14 keep me around 55C?

Peasize dot of thermal paste, dropped cooler on
I could try remounting but its on there well.
I use Asus Fanxpert, and can confirm all 8 fans are spinning correctly :/ they aren't cheap fans either.

Hmm...

Hmm... so would you recommend one over the other in terms of temperature?
Noctua seems reliable, as there aren't any pumps to break. The noctua is $75 and the H100i is never under $99.99.
What would you get? I can fit a D14 in, but not a D15.

Hmm... what do you use personally? would the Cooler Master 280L be worth it at $130, seeing as it beats even the H110.

I use an air cooler (CM 412 slim - 2 fans) on my 3930k. But I don't bother overclocking (except for curiosity now and again)

I'd check whether the 212 evo was working as good as it could first - re-seat it and play with fan speeds and profiles (via UEFI)

If not, I'd have a look at getting a better cooler. As I said, I like the Noctuas.

Your fan setup looks good to me - if possible, I suggest you lower the voltage a little bit to decrease your temps...

" Seems like you got a mediocre chip and it might be a good idea to upgrade the cooling if you want to keep all your cores at a constant 4.4"

If you upgrade your cooling let us know your results.
