Hello everyone!

I have a small question.

A few weeks ago, I was thinking about buying a new graphic card, and I finally decided to get one, but now I have a small problem... I can't decide which one to choose!

There is the MSI R7 265 OC:
http://www.msi.com/product/vga/R7-265-2GD5-OC.html#hero-overview

And the MSI R9 270 Gaming Edition (with BF4):
http://www.msi.com/product/vga/R9_270_GAMING_2G_BF4.html#hero-overview

Here are the prices on amazon (I have a coupon there):
MSI R7 265 OC: 138€
MSI R9 270 Gaming Edition: 177€

My question is... are the 40€ (its 39€, but lets just say its 40...) difference worth it? My budget is not that great (even with the coupon)..

I saw soooo many reviews and videos showing the difference on FPS, but now I am really confused lol (on some games, there was a difference of 10 FPS, like on BF4).

This is my current PC:
- AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition (OCed from 3.4 to 3.65)
- XFX Core Edition 450w Power Supply
- Radeon 5830 1GB DDR5 (it will be gone then)
- 8 GB RAM
- 1TB Hard Drive
- Motherboard Gigabyte ga-970a-ud3p

Thank you so much in advance! :)

Solution
You will see only around 20% (estimated) performance jump from 5830 to 265.
The difference between 265 OC and 270 is not really noticeable.

I am usually considering 270x as minimal for gaming but 270x is more expensive and your PSU is not enough.

My fav GPUs at the moment is R9 280x 3GB and GTX770 2GB, with these 2 you will see a really huge jump.
But, in order to use one of those effectively, you will need a newer proc. (PSU and mobo, probably RAM too if your rig still has DDR2)
Your current proc is bottlenecking them.

I would prefer save the money for now, gather more and do a bigger overhaul.

That's a good bit of money for an extra 10% performance. I don't know if I would pay that much more. If you're on a tight budget and want an R9 270 level of performance get the R7 265 and overclock it to that point. I was basically in the same position last autumn with the HD 7850 vs HD 7870 (which are basically an R7 265 and R9 270). I got the HD 7850 and gave it a healthy overclock and its just fine for my needs. The fact I save about $60 just makes it that much better. ;) Its actually in a PC with a Phenom II X4 955 @ 3.6 Ghz - games quite well on a 1650x1050 monitor.

Actually, your rig needs already a complete overhaul if you wanna keep up with BF4, Watch Dog and future games.
well...unless you wanna play them under medium or lower.
Your proc can still hold on for medium and yes, your GPU is definitely very weak...but on the other hand...

I recommend to save the money now, gather more and get better parts later.
Like 4690k, Z97 mobo, R9 280x, 750W PSU, etc.

But, it is your choice.

Thank you so much for the replys! :)

@Jeffredo This graphic card already comes OCed if I am not wrong. So, should I still OC the card even more? There is another reason why I am a bit afraid to choosse the R9 270, and that is my PSU (My CPU is already OCed). You sayed that the performance difference is only arround 10%, how is that possible? I saw on some reviews and videos that the difference on FPS is arround 5-10. May I ask how your card is running? (FPS on some high end games).

@Guanyu210379 Well, I kinda dont have the money now :( If i upgrade the other stuff (CPU, motherboard, etc) it will be in arround ... 1 year or something :) Until then my bufget it verry low. But I think I can still play those games on high/ultra (with FPS arroun 19-29), I saw lots of people playing with a R7 265 with those FPS (with very similar specs).

@Guanyu210379 Yeh.. its not great >_>... but on those cases, I will have to lower some stuff..

So, should I get the R7 265 or for more 40€ the R9 270? (I will maybe only upgrade my PC in arround 1 year). Maybe the difference between my Radeon HD 5830 and the R7 265 is not that great to the point of me wasting 138€ on a new graphic card. Hmm :/

ah..almost forgotten to share my experience...
I was in the same situation like you with my old Q6600@3GHz+6GB DDR2+HD6850 (originaly came with HD3850 lasted 4 years (sold), upgraded to HD5770, , HD5770 lasted 2 years was broken than I bought HD6850 lasted about 1 year (sold)).
I finally made my decision to not upgrading the rig anymore, wait for about 1 year, sell everything and buy my current i7 3770k rig.

Hi, thanks for the reply :D

Wow.. only 20%? That kinda sucks... I was hoping for a bit more :/ The problem is that I bought my current CPU arround 7 months ago (same as the motherboard and RAM), and I have this GPU since 2011 I think. Thats why I was expecting a bit more from the new GPU :( Hmm
