3TB boot drive, can only use 2TB. Cannot allocate space?

I have bought Sabertooth x79 motherboard, I installed 3 tb seagate drive in it, i was trying to install windows 7 64 bit on that drive but when i partition it there is 746.5 gb space is left unallocated, that space is useless even after complete windows isntallation.
I have tried on uefi only, uefi and legacy and legacy only but it didn't workout.
I was doing partition after converting hdd to gpt.

So in disk management, what's the rest of it doing?

How do you know its a 3 TB drive?

Not in disk mangement, I am installing windows.
In diskpart it is showing 2794 GB

Nothing weird about it. 2TB = windows partition limit for boot partitions (containing MBR).
You can pass this limitation using 3rd party software for partitioning and booting.
If you install windows the other ~800GB will be available to make secondary partition.

Btw its not very typical to make huge system partitions since its later quite hard to maintain in good shape (clear and defragmented)

that's about right. basically the pc industry used that kind of terms. ie 400gb is actually 372gb read here for more info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gigabyte

even in GPT it will still say 2794GB =3TB. just read the link a gave to enlighten you.

Renewing the question... mind putting a screen from Easeus Easeus Partition Master or Acronis Disk Director to overview the disk partition layout?

You can try EASEUS Partition Master (Home Edition) which is free version. I'm just guessing after you play with it like10 mins the problem will be solved.

In disk management 746 gb was unallaocated and all options were greyed out.
I used disk unlocker from motherboards CD it solved my problem, But 746 gb is not merging with remaining space (which is 1800 gb) it is now showing up as a new drive Disk 1 in disk management. Now i have three partitions, If there is any way two merge them please tell me?
