Ok, so I'm planning on buying a new PC for Christmas and I need to know which processor to get. I plan to play games such as Far Cry 4, Arma 2 Dayz, and Battlefield: Hardline. With new next gen consoles, developers can make their games look even better, at the cost of performance. I plan to do video editing, "hardcore" gaming, if you will, and obviously recording videos. I will not be getting an SSD, as I am patient with loading times. Please do not say "Get the i5 or the whatever" I am between these two processors, and I'd much rather prefer the 5930k so far because of the more cores. It doesnt have as high of a core clock as the 4790k, but its .50 ghz less so im fine with it. I just need to choose between these processors. This processor will be in the same rig as a 780 TI or 980. Thanks for all who answer, and please don't reccomend any other processors. I've been thinking about the 5960x, but it has too low of a core clock for me and I don't know how to overclock, because I'm scared something would go wrong.

More about : 4790k 5930k

If you are going to play only games and do regular stuff on pc go with 4790k.

If you will go into extreme video editing and such go for 5930k with DDR4 RAM

I'd say that SSD is a must have for video editing :)

I would go with the 4790k and get a SSD with the savings...

I find that SSD's improve the gaming and os experience and not only by shorting load times...

" if you get a good intel or Samsung ssd it will be more reliable and last longer then a conventional HD...

" I agree with proofy"

SSD'S have good loading time, but only give like 5 FPS + in games. I really don't need an ssd

I'm talking about video editing... You won't get any additional FPS with ssd... it is good for video editing not for gaming :)

If you are primarily interested in gaming, then a solid Z97 mobo and a i7 4790k is the best bet. The Devils Canyon i7 4790k is an incredibly fast processor and runs neck in neck with the i7 5930k. Yes doing video encoding and heavily multi-threaded tasks, the 5930k will win 90% of the time - but its a waste if you re not doing those things- and it will save you quite a bit of money over the X99/i7 5930k combo and you will not see any gains or losses in gaming by going with Devils Canyon. They will be just about equal across the board in gaming because gaming is more reliant on your graphics card and not the CPU. With the money you'd save by getting a i7 4790k (and also by not having to buy pricey DDR4 RAM), you can get a killer graphics card and a higher res monitor. In fact it's looking like the GTX 970 and 980 may be out shortly if you can wait just a few months.

That system with a i7 4790k would be top shelf for years. If you can't wait though, a GTX 780, or 780 Ti (if you can afford it) would be a fantastic rig. That is the sensible answer.

That being said, the crazy answer is if you have money to burn and want a i7 5930k and some crazy expensive DDR4 RAM, then I say go for it. Its your money and that processor is looking really sweet!

Exactly what I said but in detail. As for the GPU if you want to wait new 900 series from nvidia then wait March 2015 because they will be using 20nm chips.. The ones that will be released in october/december will be made of 28nm and is not worth the wait from my point of view... They will have like 10% better performance if even that, and you will have to wait a month or so for non reference card.

Sorry for the late response, i've been busy. But I'm either going with the radeon r9 295x2 or the gtx 780 ti SC. Im thinkinh about the r9 295 x2. But anways wouldn't the six cores benefit me way more?

No it would not benefit you way more because almost all games are using up to 4 cores, can't use more.
Like I already said if you plan to do some extreme video editing buy 5930k otherwise it will be waste of money because 4790k is also extremely good for medium-high video editing and 4790k/5930k have the same performance in gaming you won't notice ANY difference

R9 295x2 is the best GPU there is on the market atm, nice choice

what GPU or CPU ?

CPU will not overhead if you buy good cpu cooler for it and oc it a bit :)

R9 295x2 will be hot on load because they are made that way but nothing extreme.. should be around 50
