I'm not really keen on the differences and upgrades that the 780ti has over the 780. Both cards are upgrades to me since I use my CPU's integrated graphics. Whats the difference, what is the one I should buy? Also, is it worth just waiting for the new GTX 880 to come out? The two i'm looking to compare are the Gigabyte Windforce editions of these cards.

If you are using single 1080p you can just get GTX770 from gigabye or ASUS and you will be set for the next 3 years for sure...

If you plan to play on dual monitor setup with higher resolution than 1080p go for 780ti...

800 series with 20nm chips will be released after march 2015... The ones that will come for 2 months on the market will be 28nm chips so... You decide are they worth waiting (there are plenty articles on the internet where you can read about them and the differences)

I do plan on using a dual monitor setup, but i'm curious if the 780ti is worth it over the 780 considering the decent sized price jump going from the 780 to the 780ti.

The Gigabyte 780Ti is good. For single or even dual monitor 1080p it's overkill though. I'd recommend the Asus GTX780.

Again, I am looking to use a standard dual monitor setup, more for multi-tasking than actual gaming. I will be using it for gaming as well, but not completely maxing settings and such.

Another reason not to get the 780Ti. I believe the Asus 780 is the best of them.

The 800 will not be released, they skipped it and jumped straight to the 900 series, and the GTX 980 will be released within a month or so.

Well generally speaking, I do want to be able to have the ability to go down the PC gaming route in the future and also to future proof my system, so I probably would get the GTX 780ti.

I don't get you guys saying one monitor 1080p gaming on the 780TI is overkill. I can think of several games that won't get 60FPS maxed out on 1080p with only one stock 780..

Arma 3 (Multiplayer)
Crysis 3
Metro Last Light
Day Z
Battlefield 4 (Close, but not 60 maxed)
A decently modded Skyrim
Even Unturned (Game looks simple but crank up the water settings and watch your frame rate crumble.)

So no, the 780Ti is NOT overkill, it's optimal. The 980 is most likely not going to beat a 780Ti so I would get the 780Ti if NVIDIA is your personal best bet. It'll keep you on Enthusiast level, for sure power your games at good settings and high frame rates and last you longer. Now when the 980Ti drops the 780Ti will officially be last gen and it'll drop in price and then everyone and their dog will buy one. So if you wanna wait six months you could get a 780Ti for like $350ish.

My real recommendation, and this is against all I stand for as an NVIDIA fan.. but..

The 290x is your best bet. It's almost on 780Ti performance, has an extra Gig for vRam AND it's cheaper.

Go with a 290x, if NVIDIA is a must get a 780Ti. But if you want a word of advice.

The 290x is the best price for performance card out right now.. It's the price of a regular 780, it's stronger than the regular 780, it has an extra Gig of vRAM and a small overclock will put you on 780Ti level. GET A 290X. If you're an NVIDIA fan suck it up, AMD did one hell of a good job on this card.

I'm actually selling a lightly, LIGHTLY used 290x for $280 right now. If you want me to help you out I will, I want to get rid of it so I can shove the money in my X99, DDR4, 5960X and 980TI SLi fund. I'm saving up for 6-8 months and just blowing it all on the best stuff out. I've had the card for two weeks and only used to to make sure it worked. It's pretty much brand spankin' new. I'm not sure if selling stuff is against the forum rules but I don't know where else to go. I'm not taking my chances on Ebay to pay to post the Ad then dealing with shipping it to someone with a ghetto paypal account.

The 290x is the almost same price and will perform better. i7Baby, tell me the 290x isn't a sexy card with a good price per performance ratio? A 290x is where it's at for single card 1080p gaming.

I will admit, the ASUS Strix 6GB card is really nice. The R9 290 is a good choice as well.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

$434, 4GB's of vRAM, after market cooling that would allow an overclock that would put it on 290x level. The R9 290 and R9 290x are the best single GPU options out right now. The 780Ti surpasses them a little, but for $150-200 more and you sacrifice a Gig of vRAM.

I'd say considering the 290 has 4GB's, the 290x and the 780Ti are neck in neck in performance value right now, and the 290/290x is the cheaper card.

Well the Gigabyte GTX 770 comes already factory OC'd with 4GB of VRAM, and is only around 5-10% lower in performance then the 780.

The Radeon R9 285x comes close to 770 performance with 2GB's of vRAM and like a $250 price tag. If you plan to stay within the pounds of 1080p $550ish would net you two on Crossfire and you'd bet set for a while, the only problem is the vRAM.

I'd recommend these:

Gigabyte GTX 770 SLi
GTX 780Ti
GTX 780 Strix
R9 290
R9 290x

One 770 is not going to hold up in 1080p by itself in more demanding titles. I mean go for it if you like medium-high settings but if you really want your games to run smoothly and look beautiful a 770 alone won't cut it. Very High/Ultra settings won't hold up on newer titles on a 770, because one R9 290x (screw benchmarks I owned two) puts you right at about 60-70FPS on Very High 1080p titles, at least on demanding games.

My advice to you is, if the 770 looks good, wait for the 970. It's not going to be very expensive and it comes with 4GB vRAM and it's gonna get closer to 780 performance than a 770.

The only problem I have with the SLI idea are the few issued that can occur with the SLI configuration. Nvidia is generally good with two card setups but the fact still remains that issues can occur with the Dual setup. That's why I chose a stronger single card to get by it.

I'd go with the 780Ti for 2560x1440 resolution. GTX 780ti is about 7-18% better (depending on the benchmark) than 780 on 1080p for 40% more cost... If you don't care about money go for 780ti if you like, it is faster.. suit yourself

As for nvidia 900 series, I would wait march 2015 for 20nm chips

As someone who has used SLi and Crossfire I will tell you it's not bad enough to completely defeat the purpose of SLi. On some Alpha titles and some older titles you may have to set up a custom profile but it's not hard. I own over 40 games and I don't have issues with SLi.

The 780ti is only getting a 7-18% or I'll say a midpoint of 12% performance increase over a 780 for 40% more cost. The cost/performance ratio doesn't justify using the 780ti at all. This March with the upcoming 900 series would definitely drop the price of the 700 and 800 series. I then would imagine that the 800 series would be affordable then compared to the newer GPUs. And at that point, the 780ti would be at the price point of the 770. So it would be worth the wait, but not to nab the newest stuff, but the previous gen.
