hello i have a compaq cq58 241sa and my audio suddenly stopped working so i went into sound options to see that it said my speakers where unplugged and that some random black box was there but no sound will play so i went to the driver page and downloaded my driver which when i installed it, it gave me the error audio driver -0001 so i went on a search for the realtek drivers and a few would give me the bsod which i sorted out and finally came to a driver that would work so i installed it and all was fine untill i rebooted the unplugged error was back now every time i reboot my computer i have to reinstall the driver, also the mic sauys unplugged

thanks in advanced

ps i dont want to restore my os as i know its only a driver issue

I wouldn't ask for "service" - tell them you want to complain about a driver-based problem and ask if you can email some engineer or Driver-Technician. If they don't want to do that, threaten.

Threaten to write up the issue on plenty of forums, and that you'll list Compaq Support's refusal to even accept the problem description.

AND BE SURE TO NOTICE THE PHONE-SUPPORT PERSON'S NAME, and use it IN conversation with them. Just so they know it's PERSONAL. Ahem.

Jeez, they'll probably ignore it but still - someone out there MUST be interested in fixing something because they have "teams" and they're rivals therefore. "I can stick it to the other team by fixing THEIR driver problem!"

You may also have HDMI drivers installed. Is this a Motherboard-based Video? Or is your video-card separate?

Does this Compaq model have an explicit Support page for whatever version of Windows you're using? You mentioned "drivers giving BSODs" and I am wondering if you're just sticking drivers on it to see if they work AS IF Compaq doesn't have direct support for this motherboard's built-in audio.

If you have HDMI drivers loaded (which connect Audio and Video, and printer drivers as well), then the issues are complicated, accordingly. That's why I asked about video card possibilities, and direct, exact Compaq support pages.

I am looking at your Compag model's Win 8.1-64 support page. I don't like it.

Because the Audio Driver is dated many months BEFORE Win 8.1 is delivered (9/2012 vs. 6/2013). Grrr...

The Synoptics touch-pad has a pre-release date , too.

Other drivers have post-June 2013 dates and, while there are offers to view "previous versions", indeed Compaq seems to have stripped those away for the most part - and those few are all pre-release. This means Compaq did such a poor job on some Pre-Release Drivers that they destroyed all access to them, OR they haven't heard enough problems to examine the issue (like, this, your Audio Driver issue).

The driver might have been fine for June, 2013 and beyond but Windows Updates have been dribbling in. What was good for June 2013's Win 8.1 obviously isn't working on your system anymore.

I might suggest "go backwards and uninstall Win Updates" but I hate that. With your note about HDMI difficulties, I think you've got a valid complaint to Compaq and maybe let them rework something - if they don't already have some Beta to test with. Just be cautious and do a good System Restore Point before installing beta drivers because HDMIs can affect Video, and if you lose your video, then alternatives are few and far between - trying to remember every exact keystroke while I'm blind is pretty tough.
