Hey guys,

I have a real 120Hz HDTV (I think) but like all other TV's, it's set to accept a 60Hz then convert to 120Hz, causing judder on gaming despite its game mode.

I would like to know if anyone could tell me if this is possible with my TV to force it via PC to accept a 120Hz SIGNAL since the panel is genuinely 120Hz.

My TV is really excellent so it'd be worth the efforts if it's possible.
LG 42" 520 UA, thanks

the reason why you are getting "judder" or lag when playing games on 120hz mode is because of how 120hz televisions work. all 120hz televisions only accept a 60hz input so post process the video to 120hz by adding frames. this processing is what causes the lag or "judder" as you put it.

generally many televisions which have 120hz displays are not meant to receive 120hz input. this is often not limited via spec since hdmi 1.4 compatible televisions can definitely support this but they are limited more by bureaucracy since it is not thought of as a required feature.

as far as actually fixing this problem you can read this http://www.blurbusters.com/overclock/120hz-pc-to-tv/ to see if this fixes your problem but i cannot guarantee that your tv is compatible or that it will not harm your television.

Yeah I knew all that already and about Blurbusters. I never tried it because there is no official list with my TV on it to show me that it's safe. How do I find out if my TV could take on a 120Hz signal safely?

well that is the risk part. i'm not aware of any "list" which shows which models can be overclocked and which cannot. i do not think there has been substantial testing done which was published except for blurbusters.
