just bought a samsung evo 840 250 gb and installed it. The computer works perfectly except for games. I should note that i cloned the hard drive and did not do a clean install. I did reinstall wow though. With my old hard drive in wow I got 50 to 60 fps on ultra. After installing the hard drive I get 10 to 30 fps.

The Ssd is in ahci mode. I tried switching to a different sata iii port restarted and turned on wow and I was at 60 fps constant and thought it was fixed. Once i restarted again. I was once again at low fps in wow. What could be causing this? Im stumped. Is it a bad sata cable? Drivers? Would a fresh windows 7 install fix this?

This is a very frustrating issue please help!

System specs.

Amd 1075t @ 3.8 ghz
Amd 6950
8 gigs of memory
840 evo 250gb
Motherboard 870a-54g

That's the reason why you're getting low FPS.

I know what when upgrading to an SSD from a HDD, you just can't simply change the SATA operation to AHCI because it will blue screen (which is odd in your case because it's not BSODing). Generally, you either need to do a clean re-install, or do a registry tweak such as the one listed here:

You can try to see if that will fix your problem to see if it will reduce the system idle process. Also, please look at this for more information:

Start off with the driver before even doing a re-install. Go into the device manager, find your video card, right click and uninstall (software too), then download and install from manufacturer see if there is any change.

Has the SATA operation always been on AHCI, or was it changed when you installed the SSD? When you are getting the low FPS when playing, see if you can monitor the GPU/CPU usage using something like AMD overdrive or MSI afterburner and see if it's at 100%. See if there is a difference in usage when it performs good, and when it's not.

I did the registry tweak then changed it to ahci. Thats why it doesnt bluescreen. Everything turns on quickly just low fps in games. Switching to a different sata 3 port temporarily fixes the issue then after a restart i think it installs new drivers or aomething then im back to unlayable fps. I will to a clean install and use a new sata 3 cable tonight. Hopefully that fixes it. What is the proper way to install windows 7 with the ssd? Set to ahci mode reformat then fresh install? Do i need to do the registry tweak again or does it do ut by itself with A fresh install? And would i need to make any other changes?
