RCA @ back of receiver, cut rca off other end hook into speaker, will this work???

If the RCA on the back of the receiver is labeled as the speaker output then yes cutting off the other end and connecting bare wire to the speakers will work.

Most receivers that use RCA jacks are outputting line level signals on those ports. They are typically used for interconnecting components like tape or CD players rather than speakers. Speaker outputs are usually large terminals that are red and black so that you can connect large gauge wire since speakers are driven more by current than voltage.
