So, there's 20 mins left of a ongoing sale on a site, where the 295x2 is down from 1800 USD to 1260 USD. Should I go for it or wait until the G24 event for nvidiacards? SLI 980 might be a lot more expensive.

I have a 850 80+ gold corsair rm850 - not sure if its enough

Ah ok, you'll need 1kW PSU and some good airflow case, and atleast i5 or FX 8, you have them?

I bought it. We have a splendid return-agreement here in Norway, so I can return it within 14 days for no reason what so ever, and 40 days with one. So I get to test it.

Wish me luck gents.

295X2 is 290X CFed by factory in a single card, and I wouldn't advice CF 290Xs on a 850W PSU.

Great, just make sure you don't fry up your PSU if you have anything less than 850W ;)
All luck!

But I believe in benchmarks and the benchmarks say the total power consumption at load is 675 so a 850 will be fine, even a 750w will if it's good enough

It needs 52Amps on 12V rail w/ 2X8 pin connector, can't really give a green signal unless he satisfies that.

I believe it has 70.8 amps on 12V

Look at Blackbird's reply here:
http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2225988/295x2-85...
I'm just repeating that, pretty convinced he knows better than most of us :)
PS: Single 295X2 system can take upto 675W of power.

Well yeah he knows better of course however most websites recommend a minimum of 850W meaning its not ideal but it will run it especially if its a good one ( Check the links for the systems they are using )

Thats the real requirement : System power supply must support supplying a combined 50A of current over the two 8-pin power connectors, in addition to providing power requirements for other components.

If thats there then there should be minimal problems , According to most websites its around 650W Max Power Consumption : http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/R9_295_X2/22.htm...

It is going to be a push however not completely impossible.

http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/amd-radeon-r9-295x...

Tomshardware : http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-r9-295x2-rev...

I respect Blackbird and thinks he's the best one out here however he hasn't tried everything and websites try everything on hand , with all respect to him he's a human being afterall :)

70A is good enough, what model? I'm not against 295X2, but you must have the right resources for it, TopLuca, nice info, I already mentioned the basic requirement is Amps and quality :)

I understand that you don't want his system to blow up :D

Exactly, I'm less worried about the GPU (its the best performer, we all know it!) more about the system, w/o any info on the build, I can't recommend such mammoth GPU to any other rig. The PSU seems good at 70A, but knowing the model will really help in resolving the 'will it run' issue, for eg, even a 1kW Raidmax or Logisys or any other crap brand won't be able to run it, PSU matter a lot :)

He mentioned that it is Corsair RM 850W PSU initially :)  .

The 14-day period is within the G24-NVIDIA event, so I'll just send it back if there's any massive difference. The price for the 980 here in norway should be 900-1000 USD(thats what 780ti started at), so it is considerably cheaper than those in SLI. Not that much difference performancewise either, I suspect.

I have the option to reconsider though. There's also a rentfree 3 month payment "delay".

That was a rather funny discussion and one of a kind , I never saw it happen on the forum before :D

Conclusion for our friend here (OP) : Your PSU is fine and probably you won't need to upgrade it anytime soon !

I actually bought a 1000W version first, but some retards at the store fu**ed it up, so they sent me a 850W one instead. They ran out of the 1000w one and I was stuck with this. Extremely annoying.
