Hello guys. I was planning to buy a new laptop this year around October to November for college and gaming. (So excited because lot of games release during that time!):bounce:
I am quite addicted in playing new games due to improvements in graphics and stories, and sometimes go online gaming if no latest games to be play!:D

So for now I had myself a few laptop from 2 different producer. One is Acer, another one is Lenovo.

For both the laptop they use same spec, here is the list.
- i5-4210u
- 4gb ddr3
- 1tb hdd

The only differences is that Acer uses gt 840m 2gb with 15.6 hd while Lenovo uses gt 840m 4gb with 15.6 fhd.

And for that increase in extra 2gb and fhd, the price push up for around USD$ 120. :pfff:My choice is Acer (which is cheaper) but to think that the games are getting better and better in graphics, I am afraid that 2gb gpu cant handle the upcoming games.

So I will need some advise whether the increase in 2gb vram and that fhd screen worth that 120 bucks,as I wont plan to buy any new laptop or upgrades? (but maybe for upgrading the ram, yes)

I will like to play games with mid to high setting in hd, but of course wont refuse to play to max if possible, can the laptop specs last for the next, maybe 2-3 years, for the upcoming games?

Solution
I would go with the 2GB version.
As even if you game at 1080p the 840m would limit your performance and i doubt that you would exceed the 2GB limit anyway. The extra 120$ for a 4gb vram and a 1080p monitor would be useless. Stick with the cheaper choice or find another with a a better gpu. Or just put that 120$ into upgrading the rams to 8GB and keep the rest :)

I am not sure about it as I seen the laptop from a promotion catalog, but for both laptop that range from $650-750, I think it is a normal one with 1080p.
I did some reading about the 2gb and 4gb vram, concluding that vram is resource for the graphic texturing. So if I want to play games in higher graphic, eg. like playing in high setting on texture, I will need more vram for doing so? Sorry for asking because I am not really good in computer stuffs.
Does that extra 2gb helps in performance of displaying?

I agree, a GT 840M won't be able to handle high settings on any new games, and older games take far less vram so that doesn't matter either. Just get the 2GB version.
