Both are the same in terms of performance, but 770 is better by 1 or 2 fps

the size of the display doesn't mean anything. it's all about resolution. i'm sure your TV is only 1080p in which case any of those 3 GPUs will be able to play pretty much all your games at max settings.

having said that, i would still take the GTX 770 because it is cooler and more energy efficient than the r9 280x. if you live in the states you can pick a factory overclocked GTX 770 with a premium cooler for under $300 now .

Since you can get the Sapphire R9 280X Dual-X OC http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FLMKNE0 for under $300. I would go that route. Both the 770 and R9 280X perform about the same.

you can get a GTX 770 for the same price, $290, without even having to fill out a rebate here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

there is no question that the GTX 770 is the better deal. you get about 5% more speed (on average) while eating 10% less power

The r9 290 is definitely better as it competes directly with the gtx 780 and not the gtx770. If you do consider a 290, please get 1 with a aftermarket cooling solution unless you can stand noisy fans and high temperatures associated with the reference coolers' r9 290s.
