Hi,

I'm looking for a new build. My current one is decent but I'm going to be giving it to my girlfriend, gives me an excuse for an upgrade. My PC is mainly used for gaming and sometimes rendering game-play in Sony Vegas.

Current Spec:
Motherboard: Asus P8Z68-V LX
CPU: i5-2500k 3.3GHz
GPU: GTX 760 2GB
Memory: 8GB DDR3 1333mhz
Storage: 500GB S-ATAII
Power Supply: XFX TS 550W
Monitor 1360x768 Monitor

I'm currently looking at something like:
Motherboard: ASUS Z97-A ATX
CPU: i7-4790k 4.0GHz
CPU Cooler: Corsair H55 Hydro Series
GPU: GTX 780ti 3GB
Memory: 16GB HYPER-X BEAST DDR3 2133mhz XMP
Storage: 120GB Kingston V300 SSD / 1TB Seagate SSHD
Power Supply: Corsair 750W CS Series
Monitor 1920x1080

+1 on the Samsung EVO 840, or 850 Pro. The Kingston SSD isn't the best value for the money.

I'd consider the Gigabyte UDH Z97 series of mobo's. While ASUS is usually solid, and has arguably the best software/interfaces, that particular mobo seems to have an above average failure rate, and based on some reviews, performs slower when all components are equal.

Thank you for the advice. I'll definitely change the SSD. As for the Motherboard, I'm having the PC built for me on a site I've used before pcspecialist.co.uk and the only Gigabyte boards listed are the Z97-HD3: ATX and the Z97X Gaming 3: ATX.

I've reading around and have been noticing people say that the 780ti is a little overkill for 1080p gaming and 780 would do just fine. Just thought I'd ask here, since I don't see the point in spending money on something if it isn't really needed.

Unless you're a die-hard NVIDIA fan, I'd also consider the much cheaper R9 290. Specifically, the Sapphire Tri-X R9 290. It equals or out performs the 780 in many games. Currently bundled with free games on NewEgg.

If you stick with the GTX 780, I'd recommend any EVGA model.

The price difference is rather convincing but I use Shadowplay much too often to suddenly not have it, I also own an NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet, so I need an NVIDIA card for the streaming.

Thanks for the help everyone. I've taken the advice and changed for 16GB to 8GB and going for a 780 instead of a Ti. I'll look for the EVGA model.

Oh and of course changed the SSD to the Samsung EVO 840.

I'll buy the card separate and fit it myself, since PCSpecialist seems to only use Palit cards for NVIDIA.
