I am upgrading am old Dell vostro mid tower PC, I have installed new mobo, cpu and ram, I think I have done everything correctly, made sure to ground my self, all connectors connected etc, but it won't turn on. I have heard no sound whatsoever or smell of burning to suggest I fried something. I haven't put standoffs in as it said nothing in the manual about them. I don't think I have damaged components as it would give me an error beep and not boot (I think). When the PSU is plugged in a green light on the PSU comes on indicating it is receiving power.

Mobo : MSI A88X G41 PC mate
CPU : AMD A8 6600k
RAM : crucial 8gb
PSU : Lite power (Dell oem) 350w
No graphics card installed

Extra info, the case used is a Aerocool GT advance which says standoffs are not required on the website. Also I have double checked the power/reset switch and made sure they are correctly plugged in (observing +ve and -ve wire polarity) to the correct pins on the board

I don't think I need standoffs, as it has risers. I made sure to connect the PSU connecter near the CPU. At first I didn't have this hooked up as the cable from the PSU wouldn't reach, so I originally thought this was the issue, but after getting an extender it didn't resolve the problem. The PSU input near the CPU has 8pins but the connecter I have coming fr the PSU has only four, in the manual they show a 4pin being plugged in to an 8pin as one of three possibles (the others being a full 8pin connecter and a 4pin going into a 6pin), could this also be an issue?

Fortunately I do have another PSU I could try, two in fact though one is kinda needed so I couldn't test this until Sunday, though I can't remember if they have 8 pins or 4 pins. In your linked post it said the 4pin connecter needed to be closest to the CPU, this as I just tested is impossible it will only fit on the 4pins further away from the CPU

Ok so today I got it to work with the existing PSY w/ 4 pin CPU power connecter by holding down the cases power and reset switch. This allowed me to get to windows and use it like a computer, but I still hadn't dealt with cable management so I powered down (via windows) and then unplugged. Now it refuses to turn on using the same method with nothing changed, any ideas?
