Hey everyone,

I need advice on how to set up my PC case fans.

I have 3 case fans that I want to run on the mobo, however I'm not sure if the 2 140mm fans on my Nepton 280L liquid cooler are supposed to plug into the mobo too.

The main thing is that I want all of the fans to run quiet when idle and run high under load.

I'm not sure how this all works but I'm really trying to avoid having to buy a fan controller.

1 x CPU Fan connector(s) (1 x 4 -pin)
1 x CPU OPT Fan connector(s) (1 x 4 -pin)
4 x Chassis Fan connector(s) (4 x 4 -pin)

I can just plug the 3 case fans into the chassis right? What about my cooler though? It has 2 140mm fans that need to connect also into something but there is only 1 remaining fan connector on the mobo. What do I do?

If I use the 4 pin connectors on my PSU for some of the fans then how will I be able to control their speeds?

All of this is assuming that my mobo will be able to regulate the fan speeds.

I am certain I have some of my info wrong

What case do you have?

You won't be able to control your fans if you connect them to the PSU's 4-pin Molex connectors.

You can simply buy Y cables/splitters on Amazon, etc...for 3-pin and 4-pin mobo fan connectors.

It depends on the case, but I recommend mounting the liquid cooler radiator on the top as an exhaust, 1 case fan in the back as exhaust, and the rest in front and on the side as intake. In general, you want 1 direction of air flow, hot air rising out the top, and more intake fans then exhaust. The later can create positive air pressure, which in theory, forces dust out the tiny openings and prevents air pockets.

Are these the connections you motherboard has? Or the connectors for your fans that need a place to go?

If those are the connections available on your motherboard then you can plug everything to it. Just do the liquid cooler into the 2 CPU fan spots and the chassis fans into those spots. You will control the speeds with whatever program your motherboard came with.

Yeah, that's what I was going to do except I'm one 4 pin plug short. I need 5 fan headers on the mobo instead of 4. The other guy answered my question regarding fan control when plugged into the PSU (or lack thereof).

awesome that means I have enough mobo headera! Thanks man! I will plug the 4 140mm case fans into the fan chassis plugs on the mobo and plug the radiator fan into the CPU header like you said. I had thought that ALL the fans had to go in the fan chassis connector and that the CPU header was only for some specific thing I didn't have
