Sorry, but I could not resist. And no, there is no "decent $200 build" and honestly the best route you could probably go would be Intel LGA 1150 socket because they offer cheap enough entrance CPUs while the socket also supports some really good CPUs too. It would be better to just wait and get something that could actually classify as decent because you would end up replacing enough of the components that it just is a waste of money and time to go the route you want to.

If the SSD is the only storage available it will basically be full with just Windows! I'd suggest either going for a 250Gb mechanical drive or a 120Gb SSD.

Apart from that it will be fine as a non gaming build. If you want to upgrade in future maybe get a single 4Gb stick of RAM and add another later else both your RAM slots will already be full.

I just wanted to build my brother a cheap computer that's fast enough to just run windows, he isn't a PC gamer or anything. He'll just be on the internet and not much else.

I have a windows 7 pro key from the other year that i'm giving him. :p , but I run Ubuntu on my laptop. & Don't you think I should just get like a 64gb SSD? I just want it fast, Windows will be like the only thing on it.

I am sorry, but the RAM and HDD make this not practical in any way. A 1TB HDD is around $50 which while it costs $30 more (2.5 times the amount of the one you picked), it has more than 12 times the capacity). The RAM should be 4 GB also, especially for a couple of dollars more.

It really is just not possible unless there are already a few components lying around. If there is already an external hard drive lying around, then you could use that for extra storage and get a super small one for internal storage of OS. You could borrow a cd drive from another computer to install the OS or just use a USB.

But as always, you pay for what you get.

@NBSN: but increasing RAM and hard drive capacity makes this $240-50 which is over his budget, and I don't know about you but when I have a budget I don't like to go over it. If he runs Ubuntu he will have 700mb RAM at idle which will leave plenty for his web browsing, and 80GB will be enough since Ubuntu is not that large anyways. He could maybe look for a 250GB but this one had good speeds at least for a HDD. You probably don't run Ubuntu because it can run darn well on this build.

I am just saying that for the price it is not worth doing...and no build is going to be worth building at that price that is going to be decent. You could go buy a pc tower or laptop from Walmart that is better for the money.

This will be absolutely fine for running Windows. There is just not enough space on a 32 or 64gb ssd, my htpc only has windows on it and once a few updates have installed plus antivirus and some programs it's 120gb SSD is a third full already. What if your brother wants to put some music on it or something?
