Can not install Raedon drivers because resolution is too small

I installed a new copy of windows. My computer is not recognizing my video card because the driver isn't installed, therefore I can not change my screen resolution, and the resolution is too low. When I go to install the catalyst control center, I can't click the "next" button to continue the installation because of my screen resolution. Is there a way I can force my screen resolution so I can install the drivers? I just need to like zoom out so I can click the next button...

Resolution right now is greyed out and stuck on 640x480, I'm on 1360x768 monitor...

Generic PnP monitor

My graphics card is a Raedon 7870 , but I can't install its drivers because of the resolution, can't click next to install. Therefore I'm stuck on default intel drivers.

Yes, the cable is plugged into the video card. My screen resolution is stuck so small right now that when the program to install the drivers comes up, I can't click next. I can't drag the catalyst control suite installation to click next either. I need a way to force my resolution to a larger resolution, which would allow me to install the catalyst control suite.

It'll work, it's standard procedure on new builds or OS updates.

I'm not getting any signal on my monitor from the motherboard... plugging vga directly into motherboard vga, no adapter. I don't have an adapter that fits my MB. All MB drivers are installed via CD that came with MB.

You should not get any signal from the mb while the card is in place

Without a driver you should be getting the same desktop as a safe mode start up .
Are you using an HDMI connection ? DONT

If that is not the case then perhaps your monitor is very old and windows doesnt have the correct set up data for it
Try another monitor .

Unplug the graphics card. Find an adaptor that works with your motherboard and monitor or other interfaces(hdmi, dvi.) Your OS needs to be accessed before installing new hardware. Borrow from a friend if you have to.

Ok, I've unplugged my graphics card, and am now running off my mobo. This allows me to get a screen up and it's in the proper resolution. However, I can't install the graphics card driver software because there is no graphics card in there. And when I put a graphics card in there, I'm back to square one of not being able to get a display signal off the mobo, only the card in the wrong, locked resolution.

Right now I'm sitting on no video card in, display in 1360x768 (correct) resolution off the mobo. No raedon drivers installed (can't?)

This was entirely predictable .

Id suggest following someone elses advice instead

-Right click on desktop.
-Go to screen resolution and change it there.

Just like that, be sure of use a resolution that is compatible with your monitor. If you get a black screen, you selected an incompatible resolution, just wait 15 seconds and it will roll back automaticaly.

Can I mark this answer as... worst answer ever?

I doubt anyone really cares now with an attitude like that. Even if you don't have a graphics driver installed you usually can choose a higher resolution of some sort. I've had your exact problem installing the drivers on a 1920x1200 monitor and either my previous post or what mlga91 suggested would work.

I feel your pain and know this is far too late to help you but it should help others in your predicament. I can't remember exactly how many times (I think it's only one now that ATI has the continue button on the left) but you can hit the tab key and the selection will move to the continue key and then you can hit enter and the installation will begin.

And yes, these are some horrible solutions from people that obviously are not in the industry of tech support, I've done this 29 years and have seen alot in my time and driver packs are the worst idea ever besides everything M$ does. ;)

Yes, he obviously did not read the op before posting. Hint "Resolution right now is greyed out and stuck on 640x480".

OK OUTLANDER, ITS YOUR LUCKY DAY. IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY FOUND A SOLUTION, I DID AND I'M PROVIDING FREE OF CHARGE CAUSE I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM.

WHAT I DID WAS I HAD TO USE A FRIEND'S COMPUTER TO DOWNLOAD THE CORRECT DRIVER SUITE, IN THIS CASE IT WAS FOR AN AMD RADEON HD 6770 GRAPHICS CARD SAPPHIRE WITH HDMI AND DVI OUTPUT, I WAS CONNECTED THROUGH HDMI AND USING WINDOWS 7 ULTIMATE, AND YES IT WAS STUCK ON 800X600 FOR ME, ON AN EMERSON TV, SO I DOWNLOADED THE CATALYST SUITE OFF AMD's WEBSITE AFTER HUNTING DOWN THE SPECIFIC SERIES DRIVER FOR MY GRAPHICS CARD. I PUT IT ON A USB FLASH DRIVE AND INSTALLED IT THAT WAY. ... AFTER ALL THAT, i CHANGED THE RESOLUTION TO 1168 X 700 OR WHATEVER IT WAS , 1 NOTCH BELOW "RECOMMENDED RESOLUTION" ON THE CARD AND POPPED THE DRIVERS AND UTLITIES CD IN, THAT CAME WITH THE MOTHERBOARD. NOW I AM ABLE TO CLICK THE INSTALL OR NEXT BUTTON IN ORDER TO INSTALL ALL THE REST OF THE DRIVERS AS THE RESOLUTION WAS CHANGED, AND MODEL OF THE DISPLAY WAS FOUND BY THE GRAPHICS CARD. SO WHATEVER CARD AND BOARD AND OS SYSTEM YOU HAVE, JUST DUPLICATE WHAT I DID AND PICK THE CORRECT GRAPHICS DRIVER SUITE AND PUT IT ON A USB DISK OR WHATEVER MEDIA YOU LIKE, AT LEAST 1GB WORTH OF SPACE, AN INSTALL ON YOUR SYSTEM. I BELIEVE THIS WILL WORK FOR YOU!!! HAVE A GREAT DAY ALL AND HERE'S THE LINK FOR THE SPECIFIC ONE I DOWLOADED.
