Have a I7-4790 and was going to put it in a Asus H97-Plus mobo, at Fry's they didn't have the ASUS, but sold me a MSI Z87 Mpower Sp for 88.00 Should I return the MSI and pay 25.00 more for the H97, or was this a good deal. New board in box best price online I can find is 149.00

As you have a locked CPU, there is no use for a Z97 series motherboard as it is mainly designed for overclocking. So the H97 will do.

However in the future, you may want to upgrade the CPU to a unlocked LGA1150 CPU. Then the Z97 will be great.

Sounds like trying to clear out their stock, that mobo never did much sales wise. I myself won't touch MSI mobos due to their poor QC, it will have more features than the H97, though no upgrade path to Broadwell
