So, I am trying to play Battlefield 4 with my new R9 280 (non-x) and the only way I can play the game is if I set it to Windows 7 compatibility mode. My actual OS is Windows 8.1. Every time I try to play without having it set to compatibility mode, the game will crash within 5 minutes of playing the game and it results in a white screen which I then have to task manage. Here are all my specifications if this helps. I have gone through all drivers and made sure I have the right ones and up to date. Also, temps are below 68C on GPU and 55C on CPU. Also, Also, the graphics card I replaced worked fine with BF4. All old drivers were removed.

Intel i7 4770
ASUS AMD R9 280 Direct CUII
650w Seasonic PSU
Sound Blaster Z
12GB RAM

Did you reinstall BF4 after buying a new card?
What was your old Videocard?

No I didn't reinstall BF4. I didn't know you had to reinstall games if you change video cards? I had a GTX 660. I used driver sweeper to get rid of all Nvidia stuff.

Some games install certain files specific for the video card driver. It's not always necessary, but it doesn't hurt.

Unfortunately, that would also involve downloading 30 GB of data again...

Are you playing multiplayer?

I will try that first. It doesn't take very long. I have pretty fast internet.

Alright, so I re installed BF 4 entirely. No go. Still crashes. I was looking at MSI afterburner to try to figure out what the issue was. Should BF4 be maxing out VRAM? Also, it is using up to 8500mb in pagefile and 6000mb RAM. Is that right? Seems high...

Also, I just noticed that when it crashed.. the GPU went to 150% GPU usage. How is that even possible?

I went into event viewer thing and it said this "Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered."

Driver error:

1. Download DDU (search in the internet)
2. Run DDU (in safe mode)
3. Uninstall GPU in the device manager
4. Run CC cleaner to fix files and registry
5. Reinstall GPU drivers.
6. Wipe your ass and smile :)

Sounds like bad drivers. I'd uninstall completely and reinstall.

Another reason why I stick with Nvidia, they have much better driver packages, easier to install and a lot more stable.

Are you using Direct X 11 or Mantel? You could try switching to mantel in game.
