So I have 8gb 1600mhz 9 9 9 24 corsair ram that runs at 1.65v at 1600mhz. Friend upgraded his rig and now I also have crucial 8gb 1600mhz 9 9 9 24 but runs at 1.5v at 1600mhz.

Currently I put them in to see if they play nicely together and no problems. Im running them at 1333mhz 9 9 9 24 at 1.5v.

My question is can i run the 1.5v sticks at 1.65v that way I can have it running at 1600mhz? I dont think it should be a problem but I just want to ask to make sure.

Don't mix DDR3.

It shouldn't kill it but odds are it won't be very stable either personally I've never had any luck overvolting RAM. Give it a shot if it works yay! if not drop them back to 1333 and 1.5V and call it a day.

There is no guarantee your 1.5V DIMM will work reliably at 1.65V and 1600MT/s. It probably will but nobody knows what might go wrong if it does not work as well as it initially seems.

There's no advantage to running 16GB over 8 GB at a lower clock speed. No game will use 8GB of RAM, really.

You will get better performance with just one pair of 8GB. Just replace your RAM with Crucial @ 1.5v and call it a day.

Give it a try, if you like, shouldn't hurt anything, the sticks themselves are rated to run at even higher voltages, so 1.65 shouldn't hurt, run a couple degrees warmer

^Sounds good thanks guys and yeah I was asking just because I was not sure how far the sticks can go past the stock voltage of 1.5v I know when you overclock ram the voltage has to go up but I dont know what the max is. But since you say they are rated to run at even higher voltages Ima give it a shot and see how well they run at 1600mhz. I mean 1333mhz to 1600mhz is not a huge difference so I dont mind running them at 1333 if I have to.

Thanks everyone.

Run a synthetic benchmark with 16GB at 1333 and 8 GB at 1600, you may get better results on the 1600.

You also risk damaging the ram if you are always running it over voltage.

You also risking instability by running two different RAM kits. I do not at all recommend using two different DDR3 kits, there is no benefit in this situation.

I see whats a good program to test stability for ram? memtest?

Yep, Memtest is the best, 4-5 passes per stick will usually suffice
