Hey guys I know this question was probably answered a million times before and the debate about PS4/XB1 and PC will go on forever but I have a question to ask that is very specific in nature and only applies to me as an individual. So here goes:

I currently own a mid range gaming pc(check specs below):

BitFenix Prodigy Mini ITX Case
Corsair CX500W PSU
Biostar TH61 ITX Motherboard
Intel Core i5-3570K(3.4GHz) default clock speed
8GB Corsair XMS3 1333 Mhz RAM
60GB SSD
500GB HDD
EVGA GTX 660 FTW ACX 2GB GDDR5

I am thinking of purchasing a PS4 which is cheap and runs games at reasonable FPS 1080P. However I am also torn between upgrading my GPU(and probably RAM/HDD at a later date) in order for my PC to cope with the need for better hardware in order to produce better graphics for newer games. I am expecting to play games like Dead Rising 3, Ryse Son of Rome and in general major title releases(which have higher hardware needs in terms of both CPU and GPU). I am quite an experienced user and have built quite a few gaming PC's in the past so I understand the difference between better resolutions, framerates, tweaking settins etc, but I still believe that my PC still has life left in it and can beat a PS4 as it already is. So If I spent around £250 and get a decent spec GPU I might be able to get better performance in all categories(framerates and bump up the settings even more).

Should I invest in a PS4 or just spend the £200-250 to buy a respectable GPU like the R9 280X for example?

Thank you in advance guys and with every reply I would definitely appreciate if you justify the reasons for choosing either the PC upgrade path or the purchase of a new gaming console like the PS4.

Just so you know, the PS4 doesn't run every game at 1080p and 60 fps.
Watch Dogs is 900p, 30 fps
Destiny is 900p, not sure of the framerate
Tomb Raider is 1080p, 30 fps
Killzone Shadow Fall is 1080p, 30 fps in single player, and 960x1080, 60 fps in multiplayer

An i5 and GTX 660 is actually noticeably ahead of the PS4 in real-world game performance.

Also, the system specs for Ryse and Dead Rising 3 are completely falsified. They recommend an FX-8000 or i7, yet Dead Rising 3 runs better on an i3 than it does on an FX-8350. An i5 is more than enough, but everyone knows the recommended specs are chosen seemingly at random.

Thief is another "next gen" title that recommends an FX-8000 or i7, yet runs better on an Ivy bridge i3 than on the FX-8350.

I'll eat my shirt if Ryse doesn't run better on an i3 or i5 than it does on the "FX-8000" it's recommending alongside an i7.

your PC is already ahead of the PS4 in hardware terms, although the PS4 games optimisation make it look just as good. For PS4 money, you could get a R9-290 or the new GTX980 when it comes out (possibly) which would enable you to pull further ahead of the PS4 in resolution and fps including multimonitor gaming.

Many people get this question wrong. The question was not which hardware is stronger, of course PC hardware will be superior. The real question is "games". If you want to play DR3 and Ryse then upgrade your PC since those games are not available on PS4, but if you are interested in the upcoming PS4 exclusive games (which are always glorious on the Sony side) then get a PS4, simple as that.

The PS4 doesn't have the hardware to run current gen games, and it won't have enough power in the future to run anything much better than what is out today. There's not a lot of exclusives, not a lot of sales and not a whole lot of reason to buy one.

In 2 years, Sony or MS will announce a new console and this generation will be forgotten. Both the PS4 and the Xbone are flops. Don't expect a whole lot of exclusives, even Ryse and Destiny are moving to PC (both of which had mediocre reviews so far)

If you want exclusives, get an Iphone.
If you want the most games, get a PC.
If you want to buy a new console in 2-3 years, buy a PS4.

As far as I know the R9 290 requires at least a 600 Watt PSU and I only have 500 Watts. Isn't the R9 280X a better choice in terms of power consumption ?
