IDE to USB2 doesn't read more than 1.9GB

I am using an external enclosure to port IDE drives to my Win8 PC through the USB port. However, windows 8 only sees 1.9GB on the drive. I tried two different 160GB drives (Maxtor DiamondMax ATA/133) and neither shows more than 1.9GB. I don't remember if these were originally Win2K or not, or if I used a partition program on them. Should that matter? it would have been Partition Magic. Thanx.

would have been one of those ... it's curious, because it's happening with two different drives. I checked the drivers and they all show as up to date.

Disk Management only shows a primary partition of 1.9GB. As I thought about it overnight, i realized that these may have been stripped 0 in my old multimedia machine. That may be the problem. I think I'll have to load them into an older machine and see if they are read as a single drive.

That's why i think i need to load them back into the original computer and hope that it will read them. I don't want to lose the data. I don't think there is any way around that, unless someone knows a better way?
