I am using an external enclosure to port IDE drives to my Win8 PC through the USB port. However, windows 8 only sees 1.9GB on the drive. I tried two different 160GB drives (Maxtor DiamondMax ATA/133) and neither shows more than 1.9GB. I don't remember if these were originally Win2K or not, or if I used a partition program on them. Should that matter? it would have been Partition Magic. Thanx.

As long as it is FAT, FAT32 or NTFS, it should see the full drive. There might be an issue with the driver?

Can you see them in another computer? Sometimes enhanced USB drivers that are mobo specific screw up some of the older drives from being recognized properly.

Are you looking at the drives in Windows Explorer or Disk Management? If the drives are only formatted to 1.9GB, that's all that will show up in Windows Explorer.
Disk Management only shows a primary partition of 1.9GB. As I thought about it overnight, i realized that these may have been stripped 0 in my old multimedia machine. That may be the problem. I think I'll have to load them into an older machine and see if they are read as a single drive.

If you setup the drives as a RAID array - they will not be readable unless you remove all partitions on the drives and create new ones.
