Hello everyone, I just bought a Tritton AX Pro headset, and I'm a noobie when it comes to audio. Currently, i have it hooked up using the decoder, which is using the "mic" port plugged into a USB port on my PC. I tried finding an "optical" port on my PC, but I could not.

My question - would buying a sound card fix this issue? Also, what exactly does using the "optical" port do? Thanks to all in advance!

Your explanation is a bit confusing. What port is the head set currently hooked into? There should be two connectors coming from your headset. One green audio connector and a red/pink mic connector. These will go into the color coordinated ports on the back of your computer. Some computers may also have these on the front.

Most motherboards don't have optical so if your set requires it, you will need a sound card.

Optical is similar to fiber. It uses light to transfer data. The benefit for audio is that the signal isn't subject to electrical interference that will degrade audio quality.
