Looking a good graphics card to be able to run modern games smoothly such as Dayz etc...

Here are my PC specs:

AMD Athlon II X4 750k CPU
Gigabyte F2A55M-DS2
8GB RAM
Corsair CXM 430W

My budget would be around £150 or $250.

I love my GTX 780 it does every thing I want. If I had more money I would have gotten a GTX 780ti. Can't really answer our question without a budget. These are $500 plus cards though.

For the budget you provided I might look at getting a used ATI R9 270.

GTX 970/980 will be out in days .... "Hold your horses". If not familiar with that expression .... wait a few more days - The 19Th of this month is the rumored date.

Edit. Joe is correct. But getting a better card than your cpu can handle means when if you get a better cpu you won't have to upgrade the GPU... again.

Yes but I doubt they are going to be in his price range. One can hope though.
