CPU temp going 99.

Hello tom's hardware i have noticed my games been lagging lately and did a fix to the point of reformatting without any progress so i went to bios and saw my cpu running at 99 celcius. i tried cmos reset. I have also replaced my thermal paste with arctic silver 5. and still jumps to 99 within minutes at bios. i did not overclocked. my cooler is corsiar h60 and my cpu is i5 4670k. Although I noticed when replacing my paste the heatsink kind of had a burning or corrosion on both sides and old paste left a burnt mark on the heatsink. should i replace my cooler?

I wonder if the pump is not running? Is the pump plugged into an header that is at +12V all the time? Not the CPU FAN header.

I had the same issue with my computer. I took it in to a computer shop and got the thermal paste replaced. There was virtually no paste remaining at the time of the repair.

It is normal for CPUs and GPUs to get hot when doing a task that is taxing on the computer.

As it turns out, my game issue was caused by some software issues on my computer. I recommend scanning your computer for errors, defragging, removing malware, etc. I would defiantly try this before purchasing a replacement cooler.

it's plugged where it has always been at cpufan1. which is also what the manual for my cooler said. the problem happened a few days after I moved my pc to a new case. i tweak my fan at bios to round at around 1900rpm the radiator is cool but i barely touch the heatsink and is more than normal hot.

I've just reformatted my pc erased everything even before knowing the temp problem. I just recently applied arctic silver 5 and problem still persist. oh and the cpu gets hot event idling at bios

Let's be sure we are on the same page here. The pump should be plugged into any always-at-full speed fan header. The radiator fan should be plugged into the CPU FAN header. Is that what you have, or is your PUMP plugged into the cpu fan header?

The pump is plugged into cpu header 1 while the fan into header 2. XD so i messed it up? but i worked fine for the few months i had it though.

If your CPU FAN 1 header is set to run at anything other than full speed all the time, you were running the pump at reduced voltage. The DC pump motor is not a variable voltage motor like a fan motor. It will either not run or burn up. That could explain the burned looking areas you mentioned. The C60 instructions don't explain that very well. I have that same cooler on my FX-8350.

Is there another 3 pin fan headr available you can use? If not, use any old Molex to 3 pin adapter.

found a fan splitter plugged pump in and powered directly to molex btw only pump is plugged in splitter nothing else. still rises to the 90's in mins. im guessing the cooler's broken?

It sure sounds like it. Not surprising if the pump was running at low voltage for some time. If the hoses don't get warm, chances are it may not even be running.

You could contact Corsair for service or RMA instructions. They may fix/replace it for you. In the meantime, you will have to use a different cooler. Stock cooler, new cooler, or otherwise.

Yeah change into the stock cooler and worked fine gotta contact corsair sigh.
