Is the i5-4690k noticeably better than the FX-8320? I've seen all the information on paper, read reviews, watched benchmarks and comparisons but I need to hear from people who actually own the i5-4690k. It is for gaming, solely gaming. I may occasionally do some work on my PC but nothing that will stress either CPU.

check the review of the amd, see if the 8 core is being used in games. if not, then i5 is a good choice. i have an old sandy i5, oc'ed to 4ghz and i am still happy with it

i5 hands down. In game performance and benchmarks are the go to source for performance comparisons. Synthetic benches are a bit misleading, so watch out for those.
The 4690k has much higher single threaded performance which nearly all games are reliant on single threaded performance. The 8320 runs more cores, which can be helpful in other situations, but not necessarily gaming.

Yes, undeniably yes. First off, very few games are heavily multi-threaded (i.e. make good use of 3 or more cores). Most are single-threaded or very lightly multi-threaded (2 cores used with 1 core doing the brunt of the heavy lifting). This will continue to be this way for years for all we know, because multi-threading is an extremely hard thing to do in programming for a gaming, and it costs lots of money and lots of time to do, something that game industry doesn't always have especially when it comes to PC ports.

I mention this because I have an FX-6300 which at stock clocks was at 3.5 GHz, on par with the FX-8320, and so for most games, the performance between an FX-6300 and an FX-8320 would be completely identical. I ended up overclocking my FX-6300 to 4.5 GHz, higher than even an FX-9370, and let me tell you, when I upgraded to an i5-4690k, the difference was night and day. My i5-4690k at stock 3.5 GHz outperformed my FX-6300 at 4.5 GHz in almost every game, usually by around 10 - 20 fps, and in some games (notably Crysis 1) as much as 30. Now that I'm overclocked to 4.3 GHz on my i5-4690k, I'm basically smooth sailing. I can't expect 60 fps all day every day, but for the vast majority of games, I'm there, and my i5 has made mince-meat of my FX-6300.

Thanks for all the quick feedback! I am interested in upgrading to an i5-4690k because it is affordable and a good bit superior to the FX-8320 when it comes to gaming. By how much? I am not sure so I thought I would ask. I have felt for some time now that the 8-core CPU has been holding me back. I actually just finished playing Alan Wake, some of you may be familiar with it, and it is a CPU intensive game and the performance I got was a result of my CPU's weakness. The cheapest I have found the i5 is on Newegg:

Is it being sold anywhere cheaper? Amazon had it on sale for $209.99 yesterday or perhaps the day before but I was reluctant to purchase it then.

That is odd! I could have sworn they changed the price. That's good news for me then :)  If anyone has any benchmarks comparing the FX-8320 and i5-4690k performance in games I would really appreciate it! I'd like to see how each processor fares in demanding games such as Crysis 3, Battlefield 4, and Rome II. Rome II destroys my CPU on extreme settings - 30 fps if I'm lucky :(  I love the Total War series so Intel CPU would be an excellent component to have!

the 8 core fx chips perform well in 1 or 2 games, but for the most part the i5's will give better all round gaming performance.

Alright then, I guess the i5-4690k it is. Last thing, what motherboard would best to accommodate the i5-4690k? Preferably supports DDR3 1866 MHz and 2-way SLI. I do have a limited budget of around $110 so that may eliminate some options I'm afraid. This is what I had planned on purchasing:

If there is anything better for $110 or under please let me know!

I spent a good deal of time last night researching MSI motherboards and I believe I understand what you meant now SR-71 Blackbird. Horrendous reviews on most of the boards; lots of people complaining about dead motherboards and glitches. The price on MSI boards are extremely cheap but I see there is a reason for that. I found an ASRock MOBO instead. Will this do the trick?

It is cheaper and offers compatibility with 5th gen Intel processors which is a nice bonus. I am really just trying to find the absolute best motherboard for the best price so any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

Alright thanks for the help SR-71 Blackbird, I believe it was you helped me choose an aftermarket CPU Cooler not too long ago. This is becoming a trend for me :)  I wonder what's next on PC component upgrade list? Kidding. Thanks again!
