When I boot up I get an error message saying IDE channel 4 master hard disk smart status bad [...]. But there is no hard disk on channel 4. There used to be. I moved them around. But nothing is on channel 4, and I get this error every time. Do you think it is the motherboard going bad? like the south bridge maybe? Is there anything I could do to test my hard drives to rule out error on their part? I just replaced 2 hard drives. 2 of the ones listed are less than a month old :( so depressing when one thing fails after another.

Thanks for the link. But, this utility only recognizes the 2 western digital drives. It does not recognize the other 2. Do you know of any tools I could use for them? Maybe even how to start windows disk check and select it to run on particular disk?

Who makes them? There's a Seagate tool as well. http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/seatools/
