AMD or Intel?

Before I say anything no I'm not going to ask is AMD or Intel better in terms of performance?
I already know Intel is far more superior in both efficiency and power.

*Link to my build is at the end*

I have a current build in mind and it will be my last build for a few years. With that in mind I want the best CPU that will be able to run the upcoming gen.
I'm not too worried on the GPU because it's already good enough and if anything I'll just SLI/crossfire it.

As of now I have the FX-8350 selected. I understand it's more than enough to run all the current newest games (games known to be released with estimated specs).

My questions is: At least a year from now will the FX-8350 still be able to handle games on ultra? Or would an Intel equivalent be a better investment?

I usually pay attention to AMD so I don't know what the equivalent would be to the 8350.

If someone can help me, I'm willing to pay up to $300 for an intel chip if it is a better investment. Otherwise I will stay at the $180 FX-8350.

It depends really you could take the 8350 and get a nice mobo and save your money but..... getting a i5 4690k with a z97 board will obviously perform better

You have already answered your question here. Intel currently has better performance and efficiency and that also means that it will last you a while longer. Having said that the fx-8350 will also be enough although it wont be as future proof as its intel counterparts.

Both will definitely last you a year from now to answer your question though.

It all comes down to your budget. If you are willing to spend the extra for intel go with a 4670k or 4690k ( or the 4770k/4790k if you require multi threaded performance), otherwise amd will be good enough also.

i would go with an i5 or i7K.
the whole platform is about ~30% faster than the amd based rigs.
im a fan of amd and built the past 8y with them, but after i switched from an 8320/8350 to i7-3770K, im much happier.

now my ssd gets full speed ~500 instead of ~300MB/s, the usb 3 stick now reads ~200 (vs 100-150) and write is at 50-100 (vs up to 50) and there is no lag on win7 whatsoever. it also runs a lot cooler, consumes less power than my amd rig and OC's much better with less voltage.

the only thing is the cost compared to amd, anything else is on the side of intel...

Should I get i5 or i7? I am leaning towards i7 because although it's a bitter priced over my budget, it's a long term investment.

And with the CPU you recommend, what mb would be best to combo with it?

get the i3770k (cheaper and cooler than 4th gen) and an asus or asrock mb.
microcenter has the cpu for 270..

best board is the asus rog series (mATX) but i cant find it with pc-part-picker. compared to my amd's (sabertooth) i never had a BSOD (except OC/tweaking etc) for the past 10m that i have the intel
http://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/MAXIMUS_V_GENE/over...

the sound chip is better on the asus and almost all components on the board are a notch better as well.

another option is Asrock Z77 extreme 6

Unless you're really going to use those extra cores/threads there is no point to an i7. As far as mobo, get a Z97 based motherboard. Asus makes good board, the Z97 sabertooth is a good buy.

Ahh The age old questions of AMD and their counter part Intel or vise versa...
The FX 8350 and 8320 have their benefits, from what i have read, for their price. That is the FX 8350 is a well rounded CPU. Gaming, Productivity, Rendering Video Files and fair overclocking. For the price it is quite decent.
Though there really is no comparison when you take some of Intel's flagship Processors. I would say the i5 2500k(stock) is the opposition for the FX 8350. And a good amount of i5 2500k SKUs can hit 5.0GHz with cooling.
Today with the Z97 Platform the i7 4690K is the best gaming CPU that is widely available. There is still some heat issues and Cannot hit those Sandy Bridge Overclocks But with the new and improved Feature set on most Z97 and H97 motherboards a Quad Core Haswell refresh is a great choice and fair price for the unparallel Core to Core Performance. And for the Budget Minded fellows, The Pentium G3258 or "Pentium K" is just mind blowing once it is overclocked to 4.4Ghz and up. For gaming. I still want one myself.
Note: the i5 3570k for some reason beats out the 4670k in some reviews in a few games and benchmarks. Also

i had 3 sabertooth, none working without problems. same with other people.
when im going to keep a computer build for a while, the i7 does make more sense..

i rather go with 3rd gen i7 than 4th gen i5.
