I built a new computer using an intel dg43rk motherboard and a q9550 core 2 quad chip. Also used Transcend 1333 mz memory 1gb x 2. I installed windows 7 as the operating system. When I start up the computer I keep getting an error message saying cpu fan not recognized . I changed cooling fan by get the same message. Both fans run ok on start up. I need help.

Thanks

Yes, I plugged the CPU fan into the fan header. I also plugged the CPU fan into other places on the board with the same results. All the fans start up and run at speed. I took out the bios battery for 1 hour and unplugged the motherboard . Same results. I can't finish installing Windows 7 because I keep getting the error message. Since I can't install operating system, I can't update bios.

Thanks for your help

Just to be clear, there are two fan headers on that board. The Processor Fan Header and the Front Chassis Fan Header. The CPU cooler's fan must be plugged into the Processor Fan Header.

Is this an existing board you've had that just started having this issue?

I checked the to make sure that the CPU fan and the chassis fans were plugged into the the correct spots. I bought the board new. I put a a new battery on the board. Everything is new.

Thanks again

A new Core 2 Quad and LGA 775 motherboard? Where did you find those. They have been obsolete for at least 5 generations of processors and more than that for the board.

If you've already reset your BIOS to default, that should not be an issue any more. You might try updating the BIOS to the latest version. The last BIOS released for that board was 0088 on 12/16/2010. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=&ProductID=3192&ProdId=3192

I found a new one on ebay. Can't update the bios until I get windows to finish loading. Can't get windows to finish loading until I deal with CPU fan. Could it be a bad motherboard?

Thanks

I may be if the BIOS isn't going to accept the fact that there's a fan plugged into the CPU fan header. I presume it is the stock Intel cooler fan; 3 wire? Does the fan run?
I presume since the fan connector is keyed, that you have it plugged in the right way.

The fan is a new masscool CPU fan. It is a three wire. The CPU fan and the case fan both run on start up. I tried 2 new CPU fans with the same results. I do have the fans plugged in correctly. I guess I could try a CPU fan with 4 wires. Do they even make them?

Thanks

All CPU coolers that come with the new retail processors contain 4 wire fans. The MB control uses PWM to control the fan's speed. That is the 4th wire's duty.
