How to tell if GPU is the problem

So, recently I found out my GPU is... defective, i'll use the word defective. The reason I'm not so sure is because I can't view anything full screen like videos or movies. Yet, my PC starts up well and good. has no problem displaying the desktop. Hell, I can play a twitch stream but I can't go full screen otherwise it'll just go black, freeze and I have to hold the power button to shut it off. If I switch it with another card everything is fine. What I'm getting at is, why is it that my pc can start with no problems, but the second I full screen something my pc shits itself.

Is it the GPU or could it be not enough power? It wasn't doing this a month ago. This sucks because now I don't have a gpu anymore and can't get a new one.

My GPU is a GTX 260 if that helps any. I'd really like to figure this out because I don't want to have to buy something new.

The fact that you can turn on your PC and even stream with no issues sort of tells me that the GPU isn't the problem here. Have you tried removing your driver and reinstalling it?

Yes I have. Same results. I can even go in safe mode and everything is fine. I can view full screen videos. but if I boot normally and try the same thing it does what I described in my main post. I have two cards, the GTX 260 and the 8800 GTS. If I try to view a stream or youtube video with the 260 with drivers it freezes. if I do it with the 8800 GTS with drivers it works fine. I know i'm repeating myself a little but I just want to make sure I'm very clear.

Am I alone? I'd really like some help. I also found out my 8800GTS is running at max load while idling. (I swapped my 260 for the 8800 for now) I don't understand. Two gpus not working properly and google doesn't turn up anything I haven't tried.

Please, someone help.
